Donald A. Gallegos, born in Chamita, NM on September 19, 1951, passed away in Las Vegas, NV on October 6, 2010. He was preceded in death by his parents, Juan & Eduvigen Gallegos; infant sister, Theresa M. Gallegos; and brother, Raymond N. Gallegos. Donald is survived by his former wife, Margaret (Margo); son, Jesus Gallegos; sister,Patricia (Phil) Lobato; brothers: Larry (Gloria) Gallegos, Johnny (Linda) Gallegos; step-daughter, Esperanza (Santiago) Archuleta & kids Christopher & Desere Martin; and J.C. and Bernie Herrera (foster parents) from Alcalde whom Donald considered to be very special. In addition he was also preceded in death by former father-in-law, Ruben Salazar; brother-in-law, Waldo and wife Elsie and Myron. Other current survivors include former mother-in-law, Theresa Salazar & family including Leroy (Cindy) Salazar, Chris Salazar, Juliet Salazar, Melissa (Charles) Porter, Lorena (Richard) Garcia, and Angelica (Anthony Lujan) Salazar. Also surviving Donald is his best friend, George Pacheco, numerous nephews, nieces, and other relatives and friends. Donald graduated from Espanola High School and New Mexico Highlands University earning a BA in special education; MA; and additional courses in education. He worked as an educator in the Española Schools; Penasco Schools; and the Community College for many years before he moved to work as an educator in the Las Vegas School System in Nevada. Donald was a loving father to his son, Jesus; he loved to play chess and enjoyed teaching it; enjoyed all types of sports; loved the outdoors; working and helping out his students; socializing with his friends and dabbling in art. Cremation has taken place. A rosary will be recited on Friday, October 29, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Parish in San Juan Pueblo, NM. A memorial mass will be celebrated on Saturday, October 30, 2010 at 10:00 a.m., also at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in San Juan Pueblo, NM. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be: Jesus Gallegos, Larry Gallegos, Patricia Lobato, Johnny Gallegos, Esperanza Archuleta, Erwin Archuleta and George Pacheco.\r\n
