DONALD (CHIEF) AQUINO, 63, a resident of Lorain, Ohio and San Juan Pueblo, passed away on Tuesday, February 16, 2016. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Ruth; granddaughter, Aurora Povi Shupe; paternal grandparents, Lorenzo and Reycita Aquino, maternal grandparents, Juan and Juana Jaramillo; aunt, Isabel Cooka; God-parents, Remigio and Ciprianita Chiwiwi; mother-in-law, Tillie Stewart. Donald was a Vietnam Veteran in the United States Air Force. He was previously employed by the BIA-NPA Forestry, a AARP volunteer and was an avid motorcycle rider, camper, and enjoyed hiking. He was a Fire Fighter, affiliated for “Toys for Tots” in Ohio and San Juan Pueblo. He also served as a Tribal Official as Assistant War Chief, and was a lifelong Cleveland Sports Fan. Donald was a graduate of Lorain Southview High School in Ohio, where he ran track and was a three mile long distance runner in cross country, where he set school records for both events. Donald was also a high school wrestler. Donald is survived by his wife, Cecelia Aquino of San Juan Pueblo; daughters, Donna Jean Atencio of San Juan Pueblo, Awenita Aquino of Ohio, Cassie Atencio (David) of Alcalde, NM; God-daughters, Awenita-Jean Moquino of Santa Clara, Wenona Aquino of Ohio; grandchildren, Chris (Bubba) and Ceana Gallegos, and Kaila Lopez all of San Juan Pueblo, Dakota Shupe of Ohio, and Isaiah of Alcalde; father, Juanito Aquino; aunts, Mary R. Torres of San Juan Pueblo, Katherine Feagan (Jim) of Boise, Idaho, uncles, Joseph Jaramillo, Johnny J. Jaramillo (Margaret) both of Isleta Pueblo; brothers, Richard, Francis (Dolores) of San Juan Pueblo, and Michael of Albuquerque, sisters, Patricia (Richard) Martincak of Lorain, Ohio, Mary Josie Virgili-Aquino Aquino of San Juan, Elviria Aquino of San Juan Pueblo, Mary Kathryn (Luis Sr.) Barrera of Helotes, TX, Marie V. Pacheco of San Juan Pueblo and Melissa Aquino of San Juan Pueblo; padrinos by marriage, Silviano and Pam Tucker of Dixon, and many nieces, nephews and many other relatives. A rosary will be recited on Thursday, February 18, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. at the family residence in San Juan Pueblo. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, February 19, 2016 at 7:00 a.m. at San Juan Baptist Catholic Church in San Juan Pueblo, with a burial to follow at 9:00 a.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery with full military honors.
