DOLORES MARIA VELARDE, 71, a resident of San Pedro/Velarde, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 17, 2013. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe A. and Josie Q. Martinez; grandparents, Amarante and Ramoncita Quintana and Alfredo and Margarita Martinez; uncles, Ed Sauer and Rocky Newton. Dolores had a big giving heart; she was a very kind and generous person who was always willing to help those around her. She will always be remembered for her sense of humor and her ability to make those around her laugh and be filled with happiness. Dolores was a very humble person who was very close to God and who loved and treasured her family. Dolores will be deeply missed by those who knew her. Dolores is survived by her children, Debbie Velarde of Velarde, Thomas Derick Velarde and Inez of Velarde, Danette Martinez and husband Brian of Española; father of her children, Tom Velarde; grandchildren, Sonya and husband John, Desiree, Alyssa, Jonathan, Daynee and Brian; great-grandchildren; Damian, Jonathan, Yazmin, and Jacoby; sister, Geri Miera; nephews and nieces, Brian Miera and wife Jennifer, Monica Duran (God-daughter) and husband Danny and Jolene Miera; great nephews and nieces, Aaliyah, Jericho, Jade, Richard, Destini, Judah, Austin, Santana and Judyn; great-great nephews, Richie and Malachai Martinez; special aunts, Eulalia Newton and Gertrude Sauer; special cousins, Marilyn and husband Erle Wright, Sonia and husband Dale Salazar, Patrick Trujillo and Melanie. Mona and husband David Lewis, Audrey Sauer, Jerome, Dominic and wife DeAnna Sauer, Miguel and wife Victoria Lopez; loving neighbors, Clara Montoya and family, numerous other loving relatives and friends. A rosary will be recited on Thursday, June 20, 2013 at 7:30 p.m. at La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Cañada. Mass of Catholic burial to be celebrated on Friday, June 21, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. also at La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Cañada. Burial to follow at the Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery with her immediate family serving as pallbearers. The family of Dolores Maria Velarde has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
