Dolores Valdez

d. June 27, 2015

Dolores Mae Valdez, a resident of Ojo Caliente, New Mexico passed away on Saturday, June 27, 2015, after a courageous two years, and 4 months battle with metastatic breast cancer.  She was preceded in death by her parents; Daniel and Lugarda Valdez, and her brother David, who died in infancy.
She grew up in a large, loving family with 4 sisters and three brothers.
Dolores graduated from Mesa Vista High School.  She worked for New Mexico Corrections Department/Information Technology and retired in 2008 with 25 years of service.  She retired to take care of mom.  She loved life, even though she was dealing with metastatic breast cancer.  She loved to cook, bake and enjoyed entertaining family during holidays and weekends and especially loved watching movies with her family. Family was very important to Dolores.  Dolores was a wonderful daughter, a wonderful sister and a wonderful Aunt.  She would spoil all her nephews and nieces.  She loved Christmas and she loved to get gifts for everyone whether it was Christmas or for birthdays or just because.  She would never forget to call and tell you Happy Birthday.  She was a giving and loving person.
However, life had other plans and the shocking diagnosis that cancer had   metastasized turned her world upside down and shaped the final days of Dolores’s life. Again, chemo followed, this time with no end in sight.  In between the treatment and the fatigue, she made herself strong for us even though she was in constant pain every day.  She would always say that she was fine.  She had so much faith and she fought to the end.
Those special memories of Dolores will always bring a smile.  Dolores was the most precious thing God could have ever given us. We were lucky enough to have one of the sweetest, most beautiful and loving sister a person could ever wish for. We would give all we have to hold her just one more time and never let her go.  She leaves her loving memories to be cherished by all of us.  Dolores will forever be in our hearts, until we meet again.
Dolores is survived by her brothers and sisters; Joe (Theresa), Martha (Mitch), Leroy (Laura), Bertha (Phillip), Cecilia, Danny (Cindy), Theresa and numerous nieces and nephews.
Public visitation will begin on Tuesday, June 30, 2015 in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated on Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at 10:00 a.m.  at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ojo Caliente, with a burial to follow at the Rosario Cemetery in Santa Fe.
