Dennis A. Herrera

Dennis A. Herrera, 81, of Española, NM passed away peacefully August 5, 2023, with his loving family by his side. Dennis was born February 23, 1942, to loving parents Herculano and Maclovia Herrera in Española, NM. After he graduated from Española High School in 1961, he went on to serve in the United States Army and served during the Vietnam era.

Dennis returned from the Army and married the love of his life, Diolinda Herrera. Dennis & Dolly went on to have 3 beautiful daughters (Audrey, Carmella, & Elaine).

Dennis worked for Jemez Mountains Electric Cooperative in various positions for 36 years and retired as the Director of Customer Service. He can be remembered for his electrical safety demonstrations at various schools throughout the Jemez Mountains Electric Cooperative service areas and for his smiling face when you walked in the doors of the Co-op.

Dennis enjoyed serving his community and was an active member of the Knights of Columbus Council 3314 (4^th Degree). He also volunteered for many years with the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish including church bingo, usher, parish bazaar director, and adoration chapel.

Dennis was greeted at the gates of heaven by those who have preceded him, mother and father, Maclovia & Herculano Herrera. Sisters Adela Rodriguez (Orlando), Carmelita Herrera & Rosalina Herrera. Brothers Hipolito Herrera, John E. Herrera, Herculano Herrera, and Ray Herrera, mother and father-in-law Juanita and Jacobo Lujan,  Sister-in-law Cheryl Herrera.  And numerous brothers and sisters-in-law.

Dennis is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Diolinda. His daughters, Audrey Barela (Daniel), Carmella Herrera, and Elaine Herrera (Chris). Grand children Antonia Herrera, Daniel Barela Jr., Marcus Barela, Jeremy Barela, and Kristyn Barela. Brothers Horacio Herrera (Pauline), Maclovio Herrera, and Pat Herrera and Sister Sylvia Atencio (Jerry). Sister-in-law, Vivian Felix. Godson Steven Herrera, Godson Michael Fresquez, Goddaughter Angela Barela, and Godson Dominic Martinez. Dennis is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other family, and numerous friends.

Rosary will be held Thursday August 10, 2023, at 10:30 am at DeVargas Funeral Home.

Funeral Mass will be August 10, 2023, at 12:00 pm at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish in Española, NM.

Burial will follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.

Serving the family as pallbearers will be: Johnny Herrera, Julian Atencio, Paul Patrick Herrera, Michael Chavez, Michael Fresquez, and Marcus Barela.
