\r\nDennis A. Atencio, 81, a resident of Dixon, departed this world to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus, after a lengthy illness with his family at his side on Saturday, May 17, 2014. He was a social worker, insurance agent, and assisted prospective students in obtaining scholarships and financial aid for college. During his retirement he loved to grow and maintain a garden of fruits and vegetables. He served his country most of all during the Korean War. Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Quirino and Corina Atencio; brother, Hector Atencio, sister, Ernestina Gonzales, infant sister, Mildred Atencio; nephews, Orlando Atencio, Florencio Atencio, and Thomas Rivera; nieces, Carolina Atencio, and Sarah Vences; In-laws, Alberto Sr. and Juanita Martinez; sisters-in-law, Angelina Atencio, Marcella Martinez, Maria Claudina Ortiz, and Martha Martinez, brother-in-law, Vidal Martinez. Dennis is survived by his wife Laura Atencio; sons, Walter Atencio (Lupita), Danny Atencio (Lucille), Carl Atencio Sr., daughter, Roberta Scott (Craig); brothers, Nelson Atencio (Vita), John Atencio (Helen), Fred Atencio, sister, Florence Atencio; granddaughters, Lynette Carabajal (Adrian), Felicia Atencio, Briana Atencio, Caitlin Scott, Brandi Scott, Carolyn Martinez, grandson, Carl Atencio Jr., and Phillip Martinez, great-granddaughter, Trinity Carabajal, great-grandsons, Aden Carabajal, and Elijah Carabajal; sister-in-law, Tillie Trujillo (Gilbert), Frances Lopez (Eloy), brothers-in-law, Virgil Martinez (Lucy), Albert Martinez (Gloria), and Dennis Martinez. Public visitation will begin on Friday, May 23, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory, with a Funeral Service to follow at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery, with the following serving as pallbearers will be Danny Atencio, Craig Scott, Jamie Martinez, Carl Atencio Jr, Adrian Carabajal, and Bruce Gonzales.
