Delia Romero, 91, a longtime resident of Lyden, New Mexico, was called to heaven by our Lord on Thursday, March 26th, 2015. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years, Jose Manuel Romero; her parents, Eliseo and Dolores Maestas; brothers, Abel and Charlie Maestas, sister, Carolina Urban, Dorothy Plummer who was like a sister to her; grandsons, John and James Romero; and Michael Ortiz, who was like a son to her. Delia Romero was a loving wife, a caring mother, and a great friend to all. She had a very profound devotion to her catholic religion, spending countless days on her knees praying her Novenas or her Rosary. Delia was a great cook, she loved children and would often invite cousins to spend days or weeks with us. Delia had a great sense of humor and passed that on to her family. She loved music and dancing. She loved her family and would do everything in her power to make her grandchildren happy. Delia brought joy to everyone in her family and will be greatly missed by all. She is survived by her seven children, Ramona (Leroy) Roybal, Virginia (Steven) Herrera, Louie (Sylvia) Romero, Marcella (Mark) Haber, Ben (Evelyn) Romero, Johnny (Edith) Romero, Joseph Romero; sister, Adelina Ortiz; seventeen grandchildren and twenty two great grandchildren. Public visitation will begin on Monday, March 30, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory, with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Velarde, with a burial to follow at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Cemetery. Serving the family as pallbearers will be Steven Herrera, Mark Haber, Jose Romero, Michael Romero, Phillip Padilla, and Lewis Romero. The family of Delia Romero has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.\r\n
