DEACON GERALD CONRAD LANGNER, loving husband, father and best friend, passed away suddenly November 13, 2011. Jerry was born February 13, 1944 in Austin, Minnesota. He spent most of his childhood on the family dairy farm outside Holdingford, Minnesota. Jerry always loved science and attained a Bachelors degree in physics from St. John’s College in Collegeville, MN and a Masters degree in physics from North Dakota State University. Jerry used his science expertise working for the Navy in Oxnard, CA and EG&G, Inc both in Albuquerque and Los Alamos – before settling down to a 30 year career at Los Alamos National Laboratory. \r\nJerry was a long-time permanent deacon at Los Alamos’ Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. He was ordained to service for the Archdiocese of Santa Fe on June 7, 1981 and last spring celebrated 30 years as a permanent deacon. Upon retiring from LANL in 2006, he followed his wife, Diana to Vienna, Austria and there served the Vienna English Speaking Catholic Community as one of their deacons until the summer of 2009\r\nJerry loved the outdoors, especially gardening and he was an avid reader of books on theology and spirituality. His greatest love, after his wife of 37 years, was serving the Church in any way he was asked to serve. \r\nHe is survived by his wife, Diana Langner of Los Alamos, three grown children: Jennifer Langner O’Donnell of Albuquerque, Matthew Clemens Langner of Berkeley, CA and Pamela Langner Seamster of Albuquerque. He is also survived by a sister, and two brothers: Marlene Langner Dusold of Newcastle, OK, Leroy Langner of Holdingford, MN and Deacon Russell Langner of Sandy, Utah. \r\nA rosary will be recited on Thursday, November 17, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Los Alamos. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, November 18, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Father John Carney officiating. Burial will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Guaje Pines Cemetery in Los Alamos. \r\nIn lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Jerry’s name to either the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund or the American Heart Association. \r\nThe family of Deacon Gerald Conrad Langner has entrusted the care of their beloved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley. 505-662-2400\r\n
