David P. Montoya

David P. Montoya, age 67 a resident of La Puebla took his last breath on earth and his first breath in Heaven on March 12, 2015 after suffering a courageous battle with cancer. David proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and often shared stories of what he witnessed and endured during that time. What he experienced there made him appreciate life to its fullest. He loved to go fishing and enjoyed spending time with his family, and most especially with the love of his life, Berna. David was preceded in death by his parents, Felicita and Melisendro Montoya, his two sons, Johnny and David Montoya; in-laws, Frank and Eloisa Chavez of Villanueva; and his brother and three sisters. David is survived by his wife, Berna; son, Anthony Montoya of La Puebla; five granddaughters, one grandson; and two great grandchildren; brothers, Manuel Montoya of Chimayo and Solomon Montoya of Paonia, CO; sisters, Maria Vigil of La Puebla, Eufelia Martinez of La Puebla, Modesta Padilla of La Puebla, Candie Romero of Santa Cruz, Carmen Vigil of Sombrillo, and Joann Vigil and husband Tito of La Puebla, as well as several nieces, nephews and many other loving relatives and friends. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Valley Bible Baptist Church in Arroyo Seco. Burial to follow at the La Puebla Community Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers, Dwayne Vigil, Benny Vigil, and Charles Maestas of Sombrillo, Rocky Torres of Villanueva, Mark Herrera of La Puebla and Benjie Montoya of Chimayo. Honorary pallbearers; Louie Sandoval of Truchas, Mel Herrera of La Puebla, Lila Baca-Chavez of Villanueva, NM and all of his nieces and nephews. The family of David P. Montoya has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home and Crematory of the Espanola Valley.
