David E. Garcia was unexpectedly called to join the Lord on August 5, 2012. David was born in Mescalero, New Mexico on February 15, 1950 to Fernando and Ola Garcia. He lived in Santa Fe, New Mexico since early childhood. \r\nDavid is preceded in death by both parents, and is survived by his siblings and their spouses, Richard and Esther Garcia, Fernando and Evelyn Garcia Jr., Linda Garcia Grisham; his nieces and nephews: Silvia Williams, Michelle Garcia, Esperanza Garcia, April Garcia Keogh, Denise Rodriguez, Rick Garcia, John J. Garcia, Tomas Garcia, Vincent Garcia, Damien Algire, Michael Grisham, Robert Grisham and David Grisham; and his uncle and aunts: Jesus and Lucia Montes, Amanda Torrez and Emma and Albert Richardson.\r\nDavid wore many hats throughout his lifetime. In the 1970s, he served his country honorable in U.S. Army and was later proud of his nephews who also chose to serve their country in the U.S. Armed Services. In 1989, David served as Don Juan de Oñate and most recently served as Vice President of the Espanola Fiesta Council. Throughout his life, David worked with the handicapped and victims of domestic violence, and also enjoyed being a music promoter and events coordinator in Santa Fe and Espanola. David found his niche as an artist later in life and was well revered as a Hispanic Tin Master. David’s artistry won numerous awards with his beautiful work in tin, brass and copper crucifixes and the Sacred Heart, which have been purchased nationally and internationally. David loved the Hispanic Art Community and was thought of highly by his peers.\r\nDavid was deeply loved by this family and friends. He was known as the favorite cousin and uncle. His sense of humor endeared and brought people closer to him. There were no strangers in his life, he loved people and never failed to make everyone feel special. May you rest in Peace dear David with your beloved mother and father, sharing your beautiful religious art with the Lord.\r\nCremation has taken place. Rosary will be recited on Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at 9:00 a.m. at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Santa Fe with a Memorial Mass to follow at 9:30 a.m. with burial to follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 11:15 a.m. Serving the family as pallbearers will be: Elmer Lucero (Soldado), Benito Martinez (Soldado), Patrick Chavez (Soldado), Daniel Espinoza (Padre), Justin Padilla (Padre), Nelson Morfin (Soldado), Randy Archuleta (Director), Jerry Abeyta (Onate), Adam Encinias (Onate’s Son), Austin Martinez (Native American Scout), Tito Terrazas (Primer Capitan), John Gurule (Primer Capitan), Leroy Martinez Soldado), Carlos Archuleta (Soldado), Carlos Padilla (Soldado), Dennis Duran (Soldado) In lieu of flower make donations to the Veterans Hospital in David’s name. The family of David E. Garcia has entrusted the care of their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley. 505-747-7477
