David Martinez

DAVID “ANTHONY” MARTINEZ, 60, a resident of Chimayo, passed away on Sunday, May 8, 2016 after a short battle with cancer. He was born January 5, 1956 in Albuquerque to Remigio and Erlinda Martinez. He was preceded in death by his mother Erlinda; brother, Eddie; grandmother, Magdalena; uncles, Gilbert and Aniceto; aunt, Veronica; brothers-in-law, Thomas and Anthony, and father-in-law, Genaro Rodriguez. Anthony is survived by his father, Remigio and stepmother, Ellie. Anthony left behind his wife and love of his life of 40 years, Debra; children, Jenni (Paul), Juan (Sara), Magdalena (Travis) and also his grandchildren, Lucas, Damian, Monique, Matthew, Tanner, and Gabe; surrogate grandson, little Anthony; close aunts, Nancy and Julia; uncle, Lolo; and lifelong friend who was like a brother, Michael Sherwood. Anthony had a large extended family that included; mother-in-law, Irene Rodriguez and companion Eddie Vigil; sisters-in-law, Betty (Manuel), MaryLou (Johnny), and Julia; brother-in-law, Genaro, Jr. (Sally) as well as several other great- aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and many other friends and family. Anthony was a member of the Armed Services, he served in the United States Airforce, Army Reserves, and US Navy from 1974-1985 as an aircraft mechanic specializing in electrical wiring. He was an avid fisherman, reader of novels, and handy man. His personality was that of a prankster, he loved to garden, and was the primary caregiver to his grandchildren. In his life his greatest joy was his family, he was very proud of his children, grandchildren and soulmate Debra whom he praised as his “rock”. Anthony will be missed by all that knew him, he leaves a hole in the heart of those that loved him. Public visitation will begin on Sunday, May 15, 2016 at 5:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to be recited at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated on Monday, May 16, 2016 at 12:00 p.m. at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Chimayo. Burial to follow at 2:15 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers, Michael Sherwood, Johnny Garcia, Arthur Mendoza, Sammy Vigil, Reynoldo “Lolo” Martinez and Roger Vigil. The family of David “Anthony” Martinez has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
