David Lawrence Gurulé, a resident of Río Lucio, New Mexico, passed away surrounded by family on October 22, 2020, following an illness he battled for two months. He was born on March 13, 1956.

David graduated from Peñasco High School in 1974 and from Highlands University in 1982. David received his bachelor’s degree in Mathematics with a minor in Physics.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Bernabe Sr. and Manuelita Gurulé, brothers, Fidencio, Juan Amadeo, and Antonio Gurulé, sisters, Rosalyn Martinez and Orphelita Gurulé, and Father-In-Law, Rudolfo Rodriguez.

He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Ramoncita Gurulé, sons, David J. Gurulé (Monika), Jacob Gurulé (Ludivina), and Brandon Gurulé (Nancy), grandson, Isaiah Gurulé, granddaughters, Alyssa, Amaris, and Mayela Gurulé, Elisha and Cambryn Lamar, brothers, Loretto Gurulé, Maximo Gurulé (Anita), Benjamín Gurulé (Gladys), Bernabe Gurulé Jr. (Cecelia), Andres Gurulé  (Cecelia), sisters, Olivama Lopez (Ben), Anita Valdez (Jerry), and Josefita DeDonato (Pasquale), and Mother-In-Law, Gladys Rodriguez.

David was a high-school math teacher for 25 years; a profession he was deeply dedicated to and he genuinely cared for all his students. He coached junior-high basketball for 18 years and high-school track for 10 years. For the past 9 years he worked construction with Rio Pueblo Builders.

An avid hunter, David enjoyed hunting deer, elk, turkey, and antelope, but his true passion was hunting bear for which he earned the nickname “Bearman”. David was incredibly fond of hunting with his three sons, his brothers, and many nephews. He loved spending time with his family and watching the Dallas Cowboys’ football games. On date nights with his wife they enjoyed going out for rides to the mountains or going to the casino. He loved his sweets, but nothing made him happier than to spend time with his grandkids.

Due to the current pandemic, services and a burial will be held at a later date. The Gurulé family would like to thank everyone for the numerous texts and calls, the visits, gifts, and all the food. They would also like to thank Ambercare and their wonderful staff who cared for David during his last few weeks at home. The Family of David Lawrence Gurule has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home and crematory of the Espanola valley. 505-747-7477. www.devargasfuneral.com
