Darrick Johnny Ocana, born February 29, 1988, 35, of El Rito, was tragically taken from us on June 3, 2023, following a terrible accident.
Darrick was preceded in death by paternal grandfather, Albert Ocana; maternal grandfather, Johnny Lucero; nino, Dwanye Ocana; aunts, Tammy Griego and Cherry Lucero; uncle, Johnny Lucero, Jr.
Darrick is survived by the light of his life, his daughter, Kaylee Love Ocana, and her mother, Erica. Also surviving him are his parents, Freddie and Carol Ocana; his brothers, Freddie Jr. (Samantha) and Brandon (Rosemary), niece and nephews, Haiden Torrez, Santiago Gil and Ezekiah Ocana, Godson, Ezekiah Ocana; close cousins he considered his sisters, Alyssa and Lynette Lucero, and Krista Ocana, close cousins he considered brothers, Steven and Daniel Ocana, and Logan Griego; paternal grandmother, Ayola Ocana; maternal grandmother, Alice Lucero.
Darrick was a selfless man and had the biggest heart. He had an amazing talent for woodwork and made many pieces for anyone who asked. He loved being outdoors and spending time in the mountains, fishing, hunting, camping, and going for rides.
Darrick enjoyed working for Ravens Operations at Santa Fe National Cemetery for the past 4 years, and recently received a promotion for which he was very excited. He loved his family and would go above and beyond for them. He was a great father, son, brother, Godfather, cousin, and friend. He enjoyed coming home after work and spending time with his mom and dad.
Darrick was the best father anyone could ask for, and he spent his last 13 years making Kaylee the happiest, luckiest girl in the world.
A public visitation will be held on Monday June 12, 2023, at 5:00 pm in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home and Holy Rosary to follow at 6:00 p.m. A mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday June 13, 2023, at 10:00 am at San Juan Nepomuceno Catholic Church in El Rito, with a burial to follow at the El Rito Community Cemetery.
Pallbearers Freddie Ocana, Brandon Ocana, Ezekiah Ocana, Steven Ocana, Daniel Ocana and Thomas Delgado. Honorary pallbearers Gabe Martinez, John Viarreal, and Gus Trujillo.
