Darrell Patrick (BOSCO) Hohner, passed away at home in Los Alamos on Thursday, December 5, 2013. He was eighty-one years of age. He was born to Fred W. Hohner and Myrtle Hohner (Keenan) of St. John, Kansas on August 17, 1932.\r\nBosco moved to Los Alamos with his parents and sister, Nancy, in 1946. He graduated from Los Alamos High School in 1950, was active in sports, and excelled in his favorite sport of baseball. He was employed by Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory and spent nearly forty years employed with the Laboratory. Bosco was also employed for a short stint with Holmes and Narver, where he worked at Eniwetok atoll in the Pacific during which time he witnessed the first hydrogen bomb explosion from a nearby ship in 1952. He commented, “If everyone witnessed that explosion, there would be no war.”\r\nBosco married Mary (Trudy) Mills in 1958 and from that union, proudly raised four children, Rory B. Hohner (Los Alamos), P. Andrew Hohner (Tenino, WA), G., Matthew Hohner (Casa Grande, AZ), and Jacqueline T. Hurshman (married to Brian Hurshman, Los Alamos). Bosco treasured the years that he participated in and coached sports with his sons. He loved fishing and camping with his family as well. And then when he thought life couldn’t get any richer, he was blessed with six grandchildren: Kelsee Hurshman (Los Alamos), Nathan Hohner (Los Alamos), Tanner Hurshman (Los Alamos), Morgan Hohner (Los Alamos), Madeline Hohner (Tenino, WA), and Austin Hohner (Tenino, WA). He is also survived by his sister, Nancy Buckingham (West Covina, CA).\r\nAbove all else, Bosco loved his children and was incredibly proud of each and every one of them.\r\nA rosary will be held on Sunday, December 8, 2013 at 7:30 p.m. at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Los Alamos. A Memorial Mass will be held on Monday, December 9, 2013 at 9:00 a.m. also at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Los Alamos with brunch following at the Parrish Hall. The burial of ashes will be done at a later time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Christian Concern Committee at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Los Alamos. The family of Darrell Patrick (BOSCO) Hohner has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
