Daniel E. Quintana (Dan), 93, a lifelong resident of El Rancho, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, July 1, 2018 with his family by his side. He was born on April 11, 1925 in El Rancho to Daniel and Candida Quintana. Dan was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 56 years, Flora Quintana; sons, Lawrence and Danny Quintana; grandsons, Dominic Tso-Olivas and Matthew Armijo; siblings, Ricardo (Cora), Guadalupe (Nieves), Librado (Teresa), Pablo (Oralia) and Manuelita Roybal (Elizardo); brothers-in-law, Johnny Sanchez, Jose Amadeo Gallegos, Ronnie Gallegos, Art Gallegos (Carol), and sister-in-law, Ursulita Lily Wheat. Dan was a loving husband and father, as well as a caring grandfather and great-grandfather. He loved working in his yard and going to the casinos where he would converse with friends and even total strangers, as he loved meeting new people. He served in World War II from September 1943 until January 1946 as Private First Class, fighting in places such as New Guinea, South Philippines and Luzon. In March of 1958, he was hired as a Dental Utility Assistant for the State of New Mexico and retired in November of 1985. Dan was Mayordomo for the Acequia del Barranco from 1975 to 2005 and was also co-owner of the El Rancho Bar. Dan leaves behind his children, Lorraine Tellez (Mike), Elaine Baca (Marvin), Joseph Anthony Quintana, Suzie Martinez (Ken), Josephine Quintana and Renee Q. Romero; 17 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; sweetheart, Mary T. Quintana; sisters-in-law, Lia Gallegos, Marlene Lovato (Chris) and Elvira Sanchez who was raised as his sister; brothers-in-law, Dan Gallegos, Herman Gallegos and Frank Gallegos; former sons-in-law, Gabriel M. Romero and Adolf Archuleta and numerous other relatives, neighbors and friends. Public visitation will take place on Sunday, July 8, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to be recited 7:00 p.m. A second public visitation will take place on Monday, July 9, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Pojoaque with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. also at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with burial to follow at 11:15 a.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Serving the family as pallbearers will be, Adam Archuleta, Aaron Archuleta, Gabriel Romero, Daniel Romero, Ryan Tellez, Dwayne Martinez, Leondro Rivera and Manny Gallegos. Honorary pallbearers will be all his remaining grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dan’s family expresses their deepest thanks and their sincere gratitude for the affectionate and loving care provided by the following caregivers, Phyllis Gallegos, Suzie Martinez, Susan Espinoza and Ava Trujillo. The family of Daniel E. Quintana has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
