Cruz "Ernie" Gabaldon

Cruz “Ernie” Gabaldon, 70, a resident of the Pojoaque Valley passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, July 24, 2019.  SGT. Cruz Gabaldon was a veteran of the Vietnam War from June 1968 thru June 1971.  During his service to our country, SGT. Gabaldon was awarded a bronze star medal and he was also a recipient of the Purple Heart.  SGT. Gabaldon served his country proudly and honorably and was a patriot amongst patriots.  He was preceded in death by Mary Helen Vigil, his parents Frank and Esmenia Cordova and Jose Abel and Consuelo Gabaldon; brothers Glen Cordova and Maurice Gabaldon; grandson AJ Mares.  Mr. Gabaldon is survived by his sons Ernie Gabaldon, Francisco Gabaldon and Joseph Torres; daughters Angela Gabaldon (Fernie), Stephanie Canales, and Christina Gabaldon; caregiver Doris Roybal; brothers Arnold Gabaldon, Larry Ortiz (Mary Ann) and Glenn Gabaldon; sisters Judy Salgado (Herb), Marlene George (Eddie), Karen Martinez (Rick), Arlene Jaramillo (Kimo), Antonette Sandoval (Jerry) and Roberta Tapia (Ernest), 11 grandchildren, 4 great granchildren  plus numerous other loving relatives and friends.  He loved gardening and hunting but most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends known as his “hermanos”.  He will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him. A public visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 30, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. at Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe Catholic Church in Pojoaque, followed by a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 31, 2019 at 11:30 a.m. at Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe Catholic Church in Pojoaque with a burial to follow at 1:30 p.m.at the Santa Fe National Cemetery with a reception to follow at the Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe parish hall in Pojoaque. Serving the family as pallbearers are Arnold Gabaldon, Larry Ortiz, Benny Garcia, Tommy Herrera, Leo Gonzalez, Edwin Ortiz, Julian Romero and William McIntosh; honorary pallbearers will be Herb Salgado Jr., Eddie George and Freddy Roybal.  The family of Cruz “Ernie” Gabaldon has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Espanola Valley. 505-747-7477
