Cosme L. Chacon, 83, a lifelong resident of Gallina was called home by our Heavenly Father on March 11, 2015. He was preceded in death by his parents, Tomas and Carmelita Chacon; his brothers, Amadeo, Ramon, Patricio and an infant brother, Patricio; sisters, Amalia and Mary; brothers-in-law, Melisendro Sandoval, Preciliano Serrano, Patricio Vigil Jr. and Lonnie Jacquez. He was a devout Catholic and a member of La Confradia de Nuestro Padre de Jesus Nazareno. He served our country as a solider in the US Army during the Korean War and was awarded the Bronze Star medal for his meritorious achievement. He served as Postmaster in the communities of Nageezi and Gallina, NM. Ranching was in his blood from his youth and after 25 years of Civil Service, he retired to the life of ranching that he loved. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Arcelia; his children, Robert, Alfonso, Phyllis (Billy), Hilda (Ren), Debbie, Angela (Larry), Laura (Steve), Federico (Shannon); 14 grandchildren, Kenneth, Jamie, Maria, Adrian, Erin, Zachary, Nathaniel, John, Daniel, Kyle, Gabriel, Deandre, Annalise and Isabella; 7 great-grandchildren; his brothers, Zebedeo (Lucinda), Alcario (Rosalia); sisters-in-law, Lucy Chacon, Eugenia Jacquez, Mary Vigil, Lydia Ferran (Ernie). Public visitation will begin on Friday, March 13, 2015 at 6:00 P.M. at Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe Catholic Church in Gallina, with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 P.M. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, March 14, 2015 at 10:00 A.M. at Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe Catholic Church in Gallina with burial to follow at Gallina Catholic Cemetery with full military honors. Serving the family as pallbearers will be his grandsons Zachary and Daniel Thomas, John Branch, Nathaniel Baxter, Kyle Schlueter, Gabriel Chacon and his godson Andrew Chacon. Honorary pallbearers will be Adrian, Maria, Erin, Annalise and Isabella Chacon, and Deandre Velasquez. The family of Cosme L. Chacon has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.\r\n
