COPERTINO M. VIGIL, 81, a resident of Chimayo, went home to be with our Lord on Sunday, May 16, 2010. He was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Lupita Vigil; parents, Fabian and Sabina Vigil; sons, Nelson and Danny Vigil; grandsons, Antonio Vigil, Joseph Moya and John Martinez; sisters-in-law, Soraida Vigil and Enselma Pacheco. Copertino was born September 18, 1928. He loved his family unconditionally and his most rewarding time of his life was when his grandchildren; great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren came to visit him at home. He was a loving husband and father. Mr. Vigil is survived by his wife of 40 years, Floraida P. Vigil of Chimayo; children, Vivian Koteen and husband Ralph of Albuquerque, Wally Vigil and wife Antoinette of El Llano, Sheila Salazar of Las Vegas, Nevada, Eufemia Vigil and companion Fidel Romero of Alcalde, Gerald Vigil and wife Beatrice, Mark Vigil and wife Angela, Lupita Sanchez and husband Leonard, Corpy Vigil and companion Mary Lou Martinez all of Chimayo; special niece, Vera Vigil of Chimayo; step-children, Lee Roy Martinez and wife Marie of Santa Fe, Isabell Archuleta and husband Donald of Española, Charlie Martinez and wife Gloria, Nora Lucille Baca and husband Joe of Chimayo; brothers, Tiburcio Vigil and wife Emilia, Estanislado Vigil both of Chimayo; brother-in-law, Ruben Pacheco of CA; 30 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. A rosary will be recited on Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at 8:00 p.m. at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Chimayo. Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated on Thursday, May 20, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. also at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Chimayo. Burial to follow at the Nuestra Señora de Dolores Catholic Cemetery in Chimayo with the following grandsons serving as pallbearers, Ernie J. Vigil, Randy Vigil, Jason Koteen, Terrence Vigil, Wilfredo Salazar, Jonathan Sanchez, Pablo Vigil, Jacob Sanchez and Lucas Vigil. Honorary pallbearers named are his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and his best friends, Willie Espinoza and Herold Martinez both of Chimayo. The Vigil family has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
