Claudia Dominguez (La Tamalera), 58, a resident of Española passed away on Monday, May 27, 2013. She was born on May 29, 1954. She was preceded in death by her mother, baby girl, Merced Roxanne Zurla and mother-in-law, Anna Maria Fresquez. Claudia will be remembered for her tamales and carne seca. She was a Broncos fan and loved her dogs and her Junie. If she saw an abandoned animal on the road she would make sure they got fed. She was a happy and generous person, always donating tamales to people who lost their loved ones. She was a loving person to Junie, her grandchildren and friends. She will be greatly missed. Claudia is survived by her companion, Sotero Fresquez; son, James Serna; daughters: Christina Serna and Daniella Zurla; two grandsons, Andrew and Tyrone; three granddaughters; Thalia, Annie and Emilia; son-in-law, Javier Chico; stepson, Frankie Maestas and wife Lori; brothers-in-law: Martin Fresquez and Nino Fresquez and wife Corrine; sisters-in-law: Anita Martinez and husband Joe, Adela Salazar, Lydia Martinez and Flora Fresquez; numerous other loving relatives and friends. Public visitation will begin on Sunday, June 2, 2013 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Monday, June 3, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Victory Faith Church in Española. Burial to follow at the Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Santa Cruz with the following serving as pallbearers, Randy and Danny Gurule, Javier Chico, Tommy Lobato and Anthony Rivera, Jimmy Romero, Justin Maestas and Tyrone Betz-Bryant. Honorary pallbearers named are, Frankie Maestas and all her friends. The family of Claudia Dominguez (La Tamalera) have entrusted the care of their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
