Clarence Fernandez, 89, a resident of Peñasco passed away on Sunday, January 8, 2012. He was a Peñasco School teacher for 33 years. Clarence loved the outdoors, he enjoyed fishing; taking daily walks and was a meticulous gardener. He was also an avid reader. He served 6 years in the United States Navy as a pharmacist’s mate First Class during World War II. Clarence was preceded in death by his wife, Priscilla; parents, Juan Antonio and Estefanita Fernandez; brothers: Max, Rudolfo, Ramon and Bernardino Fernandez; sisters: Libradita, Matilde and Dora Fernandez and Lydia Anglada. Clarence is survived by his sons: Joseph Fernandez and wife Maxine of Peñasco, Edward Fernandez of Española; daughters: Connie Martinez and husband Pablo of Peñasco, Florence Baca and husband Bruce of Tucson, AZ, and Brenda Fernandez of Santa Fe; sister, Helen Garcia of Copperton, UT. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Public visitation will be held on Thursday, January 12, 2012 at 4:00 p.m. at San Antonio de Padua Catholic Church in Peñasco with a rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 13, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at San Antonio de Padua Catholic Church in Peñasco with interment to take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. with the following serving as pallbearers: Bruce Baca, Pablo Martinez, Adrian and Louis Fernandez, Albert Anglada and Jacob Tafoya.
