Clarence Duran, 91, a resident of Dixon passed away peacefully on Friday, October 5, 2018 surrounded by his children and family in Albuquerque. He was born in Dixon, NM on November 8, 1926 and was drafted into the U.S. Navy during WWII. He served in the South Pacific, Philippine Islands, Okinawa and China. After the war he returned to New Mexico and began working in Los Alamos. In 1948 he married Eliza Martinez, his life long partner of 62 years and started a family. His employment at Haddick Engineers eventually transferred him to Las Vegas, NV where he worked for 8 years. During that time he returned home to Dixon for a couple of months and built his home and planted an apple orchard for his family. In 1958 he moved back to Dixon permanently and returned back to work in Los Alamos at Zia Company. He retired in 1988 from the LOCAL 611 Electricians as a Boilermaker Maintenance. Retirement years were filled with traveling to warm destinations with his wife during winter months in their RV and enjoying with their friends they had met throughout their travels. He would return in summertime to care for the apple orchard, enjoy camping, fishing with family and friends. Clarence will be remembered most for his dedication to his family, story telling, love for dancing, and memories and laughs he shared. Clarence was preceded in death by his wife, Eliza Duran; son, Lonnie Duran; parents, Abelino and Nicanora Duran; siblings, Alcarita Lujan, Felonise Ream, Orselia Montoya and Clyde Duran. Surviving sisters, Raphelita Martinez and Senaida Duran. He was survived by his two sons; Roger Duran and wife Kathy, Freddie Duran; only daughter Linda Archuleta and husband Wilbert; daughter-in-law, Ginny Martinez; five grandchildren; Adrian Archuleta and wife Frannie, Elena Torres, Ana Duran-Williams and husband Matt, Damian Duran and Reyes Duran; two great grandchildren; Bodhi and Arlo Duran-Williams; numerous nieces, nephews and warm in-laws. A Memorial Service will be held at Devargas Funeral Home in Espanola on Thursday, October 18 at 11:30am with refreshments to follow immediately . Interment to follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 2:15 pm.
