CLARA V. ROMERO, 65, a lifelong resident of Española, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 10, 2016 at the Presbyterian Rust Medical Center in Rio Rancho after a sudden and brief illness.  Her husband, Frank, daughter, Cristina, son-in-law, Robert and granddaughter, Hailey were all by her side and held her hands as she took her last breath and left home with our Lord.  Clara was preceded in death by her parents, Juan Estevan and Ernestine Viarreal; step-father, Fidel Martinez and brothers, Junior and Johnnie (Juan) Viarreal.  Clara was born on August 12, 1951 in San Juan Pueblo, and was married to Frank Romero on May 15, 1980.  Together, they have five children.  Each of them have two children from a previous marriage, each a boy and a girl, and one daughter that they shared jointly. Clara was very proud of her family and loved them all dearly.  She loved to bake and loved to play her piano, especially the duet that she played with her daughter, Cristina. She loved to travel with her husband and to explore new places and new casinos.  Gambling was one of her favorite past times. She had a very special bond with Hailey, her granddaughter, who along with Hailey’s parents, helped raise and instilled wonderful morals and qualities in her.  Clara and Hailey had an unbreakable and beautiful bond together.  She had a strong faith in God and passed that blessing onto her children and grandchildren. Mrs. Romero is survived by her husband, Frank Romero and her five children, Gary Trujillo, Melissa and husband Joseph Romero, Raquel and husband Adrian Ulibarri, John Romero and wife Crystal Moya, Cristina Romero and fiancé Robert Bustos.  She also had 9 beautiful grandchildren, Mariah Romero, Joshua Percival, Erin Romero, Isiah Romero, Hailey Archuleta, Lavonn Lewis, Noah Romero, Jonah Romero and Gabriel Ulibarri; brothers and sisters, Mary and the late Don Wright, Joe Viarreal, Elizaido and Maria Victoria Viarreal, Theresa and Miguel Valdez, Robert Viarreal and companion Josephine Borrego, Orlinda and the late Robert “Presley” Martinez, Jeanette and Thomas Espinosa, Larry and Veronica Viarreal, and Kenneth and Ida Viarreal.  She also had many nieces, nephews, cousins and many very special friends whom were near and dear to her heart. Public visitation will begin on Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at the San Juan Parish Church in Ohkay Owingeh. Burial to follow at the La Villita Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers, James Viarreal, David Viarreal, Eugene Valdez, Kevin Valdez, John Viarreal and Joshua Percival. Reception to follow at the San Juan Parish Hall. The family of Clara Romero has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
