Cirilio (CD) - Age 80 - Santa Fe Maestas

Cirilio D Maestas (CD)\r\nCD was called from this life on July 19, 2010 after a short illness. He was born on June 25 1930 in Holman, NM to Jose and Clodovea Hurtado Maestas. He attended the Allison James School in Santa Fe, NM and went on to finish in 1950 at Menaul High School in Albuquerque, NM. After graduation he enlisted in the army and served his country in combat in the Korean conflict. He came home and attended Highlands University and obtained a teaching degree. He taught school in Maxwell, Cimarron, Pecos, and later in Mora. He became a State Senator for Mora County in 1961 and served in the NM senate for 2 terms. He continued with his education and earned a Masters degree at Highlands University in 1963, and later became the Superintendent for the Mora Schools. CD went on to work for the Federal government moving to Washington DC where he retired after working for more than 30 years. Upon retirement he moved back to Santa Fe, NM where he lived until his death.\r\nCD is preceded in death by his daughter Christella, his parents Jose and Clodovea, his brother Joe and his infant sister Viola. He is survived by his daughter Annette and husband Kenneth Maestas of Espanola, NM, his sons Richard Maestas and his wife Monica of Manassas, VA Paul of Albuquerque, NM and Herbert of Denver, CO. Also surviving him are his grandchildren Joaquin Manuel, Marissa, Benny Mario, Adam, Erin, Amorette, Lauren Paul, Kaylyn, Mariah, Domingo, Steven, Jacqueline, Andrea, Lauren, and Adryana Maestas, as well as 10 Great grand children. \r\nHe is also survived by his brother Matias and wife Joan Maestas of Mora, NM, Sisters Stella Vasquez of Mora, NM, Josephine Alvarez of Denver, CO , Christine and husband Richard Taylor of Highland CA, Sister Flo and husband Floyd Brilliant of Central Point, OR, and a nephew Sam Vasquez of Albuquerque, NM who was raised as a brother.\r\nA memorial service will be held at the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory in Española, NM on Friday, July 23, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. followed by a dinner at the home of Kenneth and Annette Mestas at 126 Riverside Dr. Española, NM.\r\nThe family of Cirilio D Maestas (CD) has entrusted the care of their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley, 505-747-7477
