Chris W. Martinez, 44, a resident of Lyden, passed away surrounded by his family on Thursday, July 17, 2014. Chris was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Ubaldo Martinez, maternal grandparents, Margarito and Esquipula Romero. Chris’ daughter Amberly was his whole life, he would work grave yard to take care of her during the day. He loved motorcycles, basketball, and especially the “Chicago Bulls”, and he was very well liked, he was an extraordinary Man. Chris is survived by his father, Wally Martinez and wife Mary Jo Carter of Ojo Salitrar; mother, Adela Martinez of Española and companion Dwight Pippin; daughter, Amberly Martinez of Lyden; wife, Peggy Rodriguez of Lyden; step-son, Denny Martinez of Albuquerque; brother, Kenneth Martinez of Española, sister, Anna Crowe and husband Delbert of Dulce; paternal grandmother, Faye Martinez of Ranchitos; special aunt, Frances Cottrell of Fairview, and several other uncles, aunts and relatives. Public visitation will begin on Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at 6:30 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory, with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Ohkay Owingeh, with a burial to follow at Our Lady of Guadalupe Cemetery in Velarde, with the following serving as pallbearers, Russel Martinez, Angelic Abeyta, Modesto Rodriguez, Denny Martinez, Antonio Gallegos, and Kenneth Martinez, honorary pallbearers, Anthony Rodriguez, Michael Marquez, Allen Martinez, and Peter Sanchez Jr. The family of Chris W. Martinez has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley. \r\n
