CHRISTOPHER J. MARTINEZ, a resident of Española, passed away unexpectedly at home on Wednesday, November 30, 2016. He was preceded in death by his father, Federico Martinez; uncles, Leroy Martinez and Glen Martinez; aunts, Eileen Rodriguez and Beatrice Lucero; grandparents, Jaun and Manuelita Valdez, Beatrice and Delfin, and Mary and Rudy Sweeney. Christopher was employed as an Electrical Field Engineer at Los Alamos National Laboratory. He was a hard worker who enjoyed getting his hands dirty. He enjoyed many hobbies such as fishing, hunting, cooking, camping and spending quality time with his family and friends. Christopher’s greatest pride was working on the family orchard in Dixon, N.M. with his beloved late father, Fred Martinez. Christopher was a family man. He was a loving husband and father, a wonderful son and brother, and a great friend to many. He was always willing to lend a helping hand in any way he could. He will be truly missed and never forgotten. Christopher is survived by his wife, Sarah Martinez of Española; children, Paul Martinez and companion Marina Forster, Jose Duran, Caleb Montoya, Alegra Martinez and Mariah Sweeney; mother, Ruby Martinez of Dixon; sister, Louisa Martinez and husband Chris Esquibel of Velarde; aunts, Sadie Donella of Dixon, Linda Martinez and companion Micheal Plummer of Dixon, Lydia and Ignacio Cordova of Corrales, Nancy Romero of California, Mary Ann Carrillo and husband Leroy of Albuquerque and Orlinda Vigil and husband Robert of Utah; uncle, Joe Valdez and wife Melita of Velarde; mother in law, Madeline Sweeney; father and mother in law, Rudy and Elena Sweeney; sisters in law, Sierra Sweeney, Shanda Sweeney, Melissa Ortiz and husband Mike, Miranda Sweeney, and many cousins, nephews, nieces and friends. Public visitation will begin on Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at 6:30 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home and Crematory with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Embudo Presbyterian Church in Dixon with burial to follow at the Embudo Presbyterian Cemetery. Serving the family as pallbearers are Jerry Flores, Dennis Royer, Bear Cordova, J.R. Cordova, Troy Cordova, Chris Esquibel, Gilbert Carrillo, Warren Delacruz, Andrew Martinez and Frankie Martinez. The family of Christopher J. Martinez has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Espanola Valley.
