Chris Herrera

Chris “Chenchito” Herrera, Age 70, a lifelong resident of Chamita, NM, passed away on Monday, May 25, 2020 surrounded by his family. Chris was born on May 6, 1950, the eldest of five children. After finishing high school, Chris attended New Mexico Highlands University and graduated with a bachelors degree. He returned home and alongside his father, he ran the Valley Bar and Lounge where he met many of his friends. Chris enjoyed fishing, loved music, and was an avid fan of cowboy movies and game shows.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Jacobo and Guadalupe Herrera; maternal grandparents Alfredo and Dolorez Salazar; father, Crecencio “Chencho" Herrera; mother Margaret (Belen) Herrera; father-in-law Henry Serrano, Sr.; and mother-in-law RoseMarie Serrano.

He is survived by his family, Patricia and Annaliza Herrera; brother Francisco “Pancho” Herrera and his wife Becky; brother Mitchell Herrera; sister Dolores Martinez and her partner Jake; sister Therese Trujillo and her partner Philly; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, goddaughters, and friends.

The family would like to thank Del Corazón Hospice, especially Amanda and Mary, for the wonderful care they provided. We’d also like to express deep gratitude to our relatives and friends for their thoughts, prayers, and kindness during this difficult time.
