CHARLOTTE GAYNELL ELLISON, a resident of Arroyo Seco in the Española Valley, passed away at home on Tuesday, September 10, 2013, in the loving company of her family. Gaynell was born on November 19, 1926, to Charles Alton Seim, Jr., and Ella Helene Seim (nee Flandorffer) in Baltimore, Maryland. In 1959, she ventured west with her husband, three children, and the family dog to start a new episode of her life in New Mexico. After a few months in Santa Fe, she took up residence in Los Alamos, where she lived until 1965. The Española Valley became her final home, first in La Mesilla, and then 43 years in Arroyo Seco. She delighted in the beauty of New Mexico with her family, friends, pets, and church family at First Baptist Church of Española. Gaynell was preceded in death by her husband, Alphon Eugene Ellison and daughter, Barbara Lynn Ellison. She is survived by her companion since 1983, Marvin Shiplett; three children: Cheryl Denise Taylor and husband Steve of West Virginia, John Kenny Ellison and wife Mei-Lin, and Robert Cofer Ellison and wife Maria all of Albuquerque; her one and only sister, Shirley Freyman Curry a lifelong resident of Maryland; ten grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and a great aunt who reside mostly in Maryland and Virginia. The family of Charlotte Gaynell Ellison has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
