Charlie Vigil, 70, resident of Chimayo, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 1, surrounded by his loving family after a brief illness. Charlie was born to Minnie and Teofilo Vigil on June 30, 1946 in Chimayo, NM. He is preceded in death by his son Carlos Vigil, parents Teofilo and Minnie Vigil, nieces Anna Maria Diaz and Amanda Romero.
Charlie loved the annual camping trips with his family and Matanzas that he hosted at his house. One of his hobbies was making Spanish Colonial furniture. He had a great love for his family and friends and always made time for them. He enjoyed being outdoors and his many ATV adventures and fishing with his buddies. He was a devout Catholic and a lifelong member and usher of Holy Family parish in Chimayo. Charlie had a great love for life and a great sense of humor, always making people laugh. He loved traveling and returning back to Chimayo equally. He will be greatly missed.
Charlie is survived by his daughters Maria Elena Salazar and husband Steven, Lucia Perez and husband Jeremy. Grandchildren Samantha Gil and husband Cristian, Daniel Salazar and fiance Adrianna, Derek Salazar and wife Destiny, Ignacio and Soledad Perez. Great grandsons, Santiago Gil and Donovan Salazar. Long time companion, Connie Romero, siblings, Eddie Vigil and wife Rosalie, Della Vigil, Grace Romero and husband Rolando, Deacon Ralph Vigil and wife Barbara, Joe Vigil and wife Kathy, Ben Vigil and wife Rosina, Teofilo Vigil and fiance Barbara Lujan, Tomas Vigil and wife Yolanda, Priscilla Archuleta and husband Mike, and his baby sister Anna Espinoza and husband David. Mother of his children Linda Martinez, God-daughters Crestina Vigil and Alexandria Vasquez, many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends, too numerous to mention.
Serving as pallbearers; Daniel Salazar, Derek Salazar, Ignacio Perez. Honorary pallbearers; Samantha Gil, Soledad Perez.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Father Casimiro Roca bronze statue memorial fund in honor of Charlie Vigil.
A rosary will be recited on Friday, October 7, 2016 at 7:45 p.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Chimayo. Memorial mass will be celebrated on Saturday, October 8, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, with a burial to follow at Nuestra Señora de Dolores Cemetery.
