Charles Steven Mathew Ortiz
May 11, 1961- July 27, 2024
The Heavens opened its gates to Charles Ortiz on July 27, 2024.
Charles’ wish was to return home to Nambe, New Mexico, and live his last days at home.
Two days before the intended trip home Charles succumbed to a battle with Cancer.
Virtual chats with his sister Dora and phone calls from family and friends brought him close to home. The love of his life, Lucille, was with him day and night through the months, never leaving his side, sleeping at the hospital beside his bed.
Charles was preceded in death by his grandfather, Jacobo Garduno, his father Amadeo Ortiz, mother Victoriana Ortiz, Brothers, Lino Ortiz, Vicente Ortiz, Nephew, Anhel Garcia., Adrian Ortiz,
Charles was also preceded in death by his in-laws: grandparents, Veronica & Aaron Roybal, Pedro and Elisa Herrera, Brother and sister-in-law, Lois and Walter Lujan, Karl and Aaron Roybal, Robert Trujillo, Jr.
He is survived by the Love of His Life, Lucille Roybal-Ortiz, His step-children, Darlene Gonzales (Zachary), Janette Gonzales (Chris) Step granddaughters, Esperanza and Ariana, Special goddaughter/niece Madelyn Sandoval and children, Uriah, Gracelyn, Santana.
Mother and Father–in-laws, Luciano and Mary Roybal, Brothers and Sisters-in-law: Larry Roybal (Alma), Beverly Roybal, Janet Trujillo (Robert), Louie Roybal (Pamela), Jackie Roybal (Ivan), Moses Roybal (Jazmine), Anna Salazar (Tommy), Berna Lujan (Harold).
Charles is also survived by his children Heather Anderson (Robert), Lance Ortiz (Mandi) Grandchildren,
Layla, Robert, Anika, Gunner, Dashel, Hayden (Anderson) Piper, Hudson (Ortiz) Biological Mother, Violet Roybal, half-sisters and half-brothers, Elizabeth Romero-Duran, Kenneth Romero (Pam), Irven Romero (Henrietta), Bryan Romero (Christina). He is also survived by his Sisters and Brothers Josina Ortiz, Elvira Garcia, Leroy Ortiz (Ruby), Annie Scovel (Clint), Amadeo Ortiz, and his sister with whom he lived with after his father passed, Dora Ortiz. And sister-in-law, Miranda Ortiz.
Charles attended Nambe Elementary and Pojoaque High School. Charles went to live with his sister Dora, she bought him his first car, which took him to school where he graduated from Del Norte High School, and to his work at K-Bob’s. Charles returned to Nambe and began work for Sarcon West Corporation, and became a Superintendent, and undertook many huge projects but his most memorable was remodeling of St. Vincent’s Hospital. He met the love of his life, Lucille Roybal, a nurse, and together they moved to Virginia, where he worked and continued as Superintendent with Wack General Contractor and their he had his most memorable project, St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Fredericksburg, Virginia.
Celebration of Charles’ Life will take place in the Sangre De Christo Chapel of De Vargas Funeral Home at 10:00 am on Wednesday, August 14, 2024.
His Loving Wife, Lucille Ortiz and on behalf Charles would like express the greatest appreciation to Cathy Wack and all Charles’ co-workers from Wack Construction, Frederickburg, Virginia and also very special friends: Bernardo, Larry, Mary and Becky.
