Charles Isaac Ortiz, a native Chimayoso, passed away on Wednesday, March 16, 2016, was born at the Embudo Hospital June 6, 1952 to Atilano Ortiz and Evelyn Frey Ortiz, a missionary teacher. He graduated from UNM in 1978. He is survived by his wife Rev. Georgia Adams Ortiz, two sisters, his twin Elsie Martinez (Eddie) and Phyllis “Felicia” Ortiz both of Albuquerque, one son Jeremy (Annette), Jeremy’s mother, Denise Moreland and granddaughters Alexis, Deandrea and Jazmine, of Chimayo; a step daughter, Michelle Murphy and grandchildren, Wellington, Alexandria, Jillian and Winston of Frisco, TX. There are many beloved primos: Edna Martinez, Vivian Romero, Lydia Trujillo, Joyce Bustos, Daniel Martinez, James Martinez, Michael Martinez, Roy Trujillo, Mark Trujillo, Robert Trujillo, Paula Trujillo, Angel Trujillo, Jeannette Acquisto, Betty Mascarenas and some passed: Vinces Martinez, Sulema Acquisto, Irmalinda Madrid, Lucie Martinez, Oliver Martinez and many friends.
Charles was an artist painting New Mexico landscapes for more than 45 years. He worked in security, Protective Technology in Los Alamos for 22 years. He was a teacher at Chimayo Elementary for special Ed children. Charles loved Chimayo and served his village well. He and his wife founded the Boys & Girls Club of Chimayo and Abiquiu. He was the commissioner treasurer of Acequia de Los Ranchos, treasurer for the Jicarita Cluster of Presbyterian Churches. He was also a lifelong Presbyterian serving as a deacon of El Buen Pastor Presbyterian, Chimayo and ruling elder of Westminster Presbyterian, Santa Fe.
A Celebration of Resurrection will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church in Chimayo on Saturday, March 19, 2016 at 1:00 PM and at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Santa Fe on April 16, 2016 at 11:00 AM.
