Charles “Roy” Martinez 86, a lifelong resident of Taos, passed away on Sunday November 27, 2016 following a three year illness. He was preceded in death by his son: Paul Martinez. Parents: Eduardo and Alma Martinez. One Brother; Bobby Martinez and One Sister; Gloria Montoya. Two grandsons; Matias and Nataniel Mondragon. Raised by special friend; Fr. Paul V. Hatch. One brother-in-law; Frank Alarid and all the Golden Boys of Taos and other beloved ones. Mr. Martinez was a teacher, athletic director, assistant principal, High school principal, Director of the Federal Programs, Superintendent of Taos Municipal Schools. He was a three term School Board Member also for the Taos Municipal Schools. He was Executive Director and founder of the Taos Boys Club. Mr. Martinez coached and had many successful Golden Gloves boxing champions. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Charles is survived by his wife, Betty Martinez of Taos; children Cristina Martinez of Taos, Charles “Chuck” Martinez II and wife Margaret of St. Louis, Mo; grandchildren, Vicente Martinez and wife Daniella of Taos, Casey Rodriguez and husband Daniel of Texas, Sofia and Zach Martinez both of Las Vegas, NV, Charles “Chaz” Martinez and wife Erin and Brittany Martinez and partner Alexa Bass both of Nashville, great-grandchildren, Marissa Martinez, Patience Feliz “BooBoo” Mondragon, Isaiah Martinez, Ania Martinez, Catherine Rose Martinez, Charles “Carlito” Martinez IV, Catalina Rodriguez; special cuate “care taker” Randy Esquibel; siblings, Betty Alarid of Espanola, and Tom E. Martinez of Taos and numerous other relatives and many friends. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the San Francisco de Assis of Ranchos de Taos. The family of Charles “Roy” Martinez has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Espanola Valley.
