Charles Frank Hammer Jan 29, 1930 – Mar 6, 2017
Charles Frank Hammer, age 87, a long-time resident of Los Alamos, passed away after a short illness on Monday, March 6, 2017.
Charles was born to Frank and Katrina (Didicher) Hammer in Crestline, Ohio on January 29, 1930. After finishing High School he served his country in the Korean conflict. While stationed in Washington DC he met his life partner and love of his life Harriet Mallette. They married on July 31, 1954 in Las Vegas, New Mexico. He studied at Ashland College and New Mexico State University and earned a BS in Electrical Engineering. He and his family settled in Los Alamos in 1965 and he worked at Los Alamos National Lab (CTR) until his retirement in 1996. He was very active and loved skiing, riding his bike, walking, wood working and doing taxes for the senior center.
Charles was a devoted husband for 62 years, and a loving father to 3 children and 2 grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Harriet (Mallette), son Richard (Cathy Finn) of Los Alamos, son Mike (Brenda Lobato) of Los Hueros; daughter Anita (Paul Crowe) of Las Cruces, granddaughter Alicia of Los Alamos and granddaughter Angie and husband Jesse Giron of Tempe, AZ.
He loved his family and Los Alamos, he will be greatly missed!
