CELSO M. ORTIZ, 92, a resident of Santa Cruz, passed away following a lengthy illness on Monday, September 12, 2016. Celso was preceded in death by his wife, Tommie Ortiz; parents, Daniel and Porfiria Ortiz; 3 brothers and 5 sisters. Mr. Ortiz is survived by his son, Tito Ortiz; as he often said his closest niece, Jeri and husband Mel Martinez; great-nieces and nephews, Julianna and husband Greg Barbee, Claudette and husband Floyd Cordova, Manny Martinez and Verna, Brian and Danette Martinez; very special great-great niece, Melanie “Meloncita” Cordova, and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. The family wishes to thank all his caregivers and nurses for his special care, Lila Dow, Felicia, Jackie, Amanda and Maria. Claudette, Janice and Nora from Amber care Hospice. Public visitation will begin on Thursday, September 15, 2016 at 6:30 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory, with a rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m. A memorial mass will be celebrated on Friday, September 16, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Cañada, with the burial to follow at the Holy Cross Cemetery. Following the burial the family will be having a meal at the Knights of Columbus in Arroyo Seco. Serving the family as pallbearers, Floyd Cordova, Manny Martinez, Sonny Martinez, Michael Martinez, Floyd Archuleta, Louis Martinez, George Martinez and Larry Martinez. Honorary pallbearers are Ruben Salazar, Norberto Lopez, Genaro Lujan, Silviano Quintana, Marcos Trujillo, and Valerie Espinoza. The family of Celso M. Ortiz has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Espanola Valley. 505-747-7477
