CELSA J. MAESTAS , 92, loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt passed away peacefully with family on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 after a lengthy illness. She was born on May 11, 1925 in Canjilon to Jose Ignacio and Martina Jaramillo. She later met and married the love of her life Jose G. Maestas and settled in Española where they raised their family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jose G. Maestas to whom she was married to for 59 years; a son, Jose Juan; parents, Jose Ignacio and Martina Jaramillo; siblings, Erminia, Joe I. and Frujencio Jaramillo. Celsa leaves behind two daughters whom she was blessed with and who cared for her, Yolanda Salazar (Ricky) and Tillie Martinez; her dear sister, Locaria Jaramillo; her greatest blessings were her granddaughters, Katricia Garcia (Isaac), Victoria Dallas (Romero) (Ray), Tessa Dallas, and Andrea Dallas; and the greatest loves of her life, her great-grandchildren, Riley, Darren, Jerome, Haylie and Matthew all of Española. She had many nieces and nephews that she adored and who adored her.

Celsa was a housewife and homemaker who welcomed everyone to her home to enjoy one of her famous home cooked meals. If you didn’t find her cooking, you would find her making beautiful creations on her sewing machine. Everyone who knew her were always amazed by her keen memory, independence and strong will. In all she did she embodied her religious belief and faith everyday of her life.

Public visitation will begin on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Española with a rosary to be recited at 9:30 a.m. Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be held on Thursday, January 18, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Pallbearers are, Isaac Garcia, Raymond Romero, Anthony Jaramillo, Gerald Jaramillo, Juan Salvatierra and Andrew Alire. Honorary pallbearers are, Ricky Salazar, Riley Garcia, Darren Sanchez, Jerome Trujillo, Haylie Sanchez, Matthew Trujillo and Rico Diaz.

The family of Celsa J. Maestas has entrusted the care of their one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
