Celina Duran 73, a resident of Santo Nino went to be with our Lord in heaven, surrounded by her loving family after her battle with cancer on July 19, 2023.
Celina was born to Rubel and Crestina Duran, the second eldest of nine children. She graduated from Santa Cruz High School in 1968. After high school she went to live in Santa Fe, N.M. worked for St. Vincent Hospital for a time, while there she had her daughter Josephine and then moved back to her hometown Santa Cruz, NM. She then worked for Presbyterian Espanola Hospital for 35 years when she retired. She was a beautiful Daughter, Mother, Sister, Aunt, Grandma, Great- Grandma, Godmother and friend. She was selfless and loyal and a very hard worker and always took care of those whom she loved. She loved spending her time with the Lord, her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and family. Celina was a beautiful soul inside and out who lived her life to the fullest and had her door open to everyone. You’d often find her enjoying her pups, reading all her books, working around the house, working in her yard with her beautiful flowers, traveling, spending time visiting her brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews or in the kitchen cooking it up, perfecting her famous red or green chile. She was always up for something to do.
She was preceded in death by her parents Crestina and Rubel Duran, brother George Duran, maternal grandparents Matias and Josefina Sanchez, paternal grandparents Sisto and Costancia Duran, aunt Lorenza Baros, uncles Vicente and Blas Sanchez, and lifetime companion Dan Lujan.
Celina is survived by her daughter Josephine Duran-Valdez and husband Leonard of Santo Nino, NM; her Grandchildren Mariah Duran-Chavira (Luis) of Santo Nino, NM, Jaden Duran-Valdez of Denver, CO; Great grandchildren Mateo and Levi Chavira; sisters Pauline Geiger (Kelsey) of Santa Fe, NM, Barbara Giron of Edgewood, NM, and Frieda Williams (Mike) of Las Vegas, NV; her brothers Jesse Duran (Shella) of Espanola, NM, Gilbert Duran (Chris) of Santo Nino, NM, Joe Duran of Albuquerque, NM, Dennis Duran (Jenny) of Ojo Caliente, NM; her God-children Adrian Roybal of Albuquerque, NM, Bernadette Duran-Brown (Becky) of Tustin, CA, Angel Hatt (Derrick) of Santa Fe, NM, Sarah Trujillo (Ramon) of Chamita, NM, Mariah Duran-Chavira (Luis) of Santo Nino, NM; her loving numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, great nephews and nieces.
A Public Viewing will take place on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at 5:00pm at DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with rosary to follow at 6:00 pm.
A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday, July 27, 2023, at 11:00 am at Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Canada.
