CELESTINO F. MAESTAS “FREDDIE”, 67, a resident of Pojoaque, passed away on Wednesday, February 29, 2012 surrounded by his family following a lengthy battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Tomasita and Celestino Maestas and sisters, Stella Lomax and Cedar Roybal. Celestino was the youngest of 4 children and grew up in Chamita. He joined the Air Force after high school and retired after 20 years of service. After retirement he came back to Northern New Mexico and was employed with Los Alamos as a security investor. Freddie’s passions were his Harley Davidson Motorcycle and his dog, Duke. He was very proud of his children and grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Mr. Maestas is survived by his daughter, Stephanie Genova and husband Wade of Colorado Springs, CO; son, Steve Maestas and wife Michelle of McKinney, Texas; special niece who was like a daughter, Wanda Roybal of Pojoaque and special niece, Suzy Sanchez of Santa Fe; sister, Cecilia Sanchez and husband Alfred of Santa Fe; brother, Dan Maestas and spouse of Denver, CO and numerous other relatives and friends. Public visitation will begin on Sunday, March 4, 2012 at 3:00 in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a devotional service to follow at 4:00 p.m. Burial to be held on Monday, March 5, 2012 at 9:00 a.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers, Steve Maestas, Nick and Willie Sanchez, Richard and Dennis Roybal and David Maestas.
