CELERINA D. ESPINOZA, age 83, a long-time resident of Chimayo, passed away on August 5, 2015, surrounded by her family. She was born to Epitacio DeAguero and Manuelita Medina DeAguero in Chimayo on February 3, 1932.
Mrs. Espinoza is survived by her husband, Guillermo M. Espinoza of 63 years of marriage; her children, John G. Espinoza and wife Shahira, Camilo J. Espinoza and wife Brenda, Lorraine B. Espinoza, Audoro Espinoza and fiancée Jennifer, Raphael J. Espinoza who preceded her in death, Mario J. Espinoza, Emmanuel A. Espinoza, and Lucille Espinoza DeVargas and husband Ron; grandchildren, Camille, Sharleen and Vanessa Espinoza, Ignacio, Christina, and Alexandria Sanchez, Erica and Ralph Espinoza, Jr., Nicolette and Victoria Espinoza, and Leah and Mateo DeVargas; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Charlottee DeAguero Smith; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Celerina was preceded in death by her parents, Epitacio DeAguero and Manuelita Medina DeAguero; sisters, Bertilda DeAguero, Eliza, Fedelina, and Rosana Martinez; brothers, Silviano, Eliseo, Rubel, and Ricardo S. Martinez; brother-in-law, Miguel Espinoza, and sisters-in-law, Flavia Espinoza and Juanita Espinoza Garcia.
Celerina grew up in El Portrero in Chimayo. She attended John Hyson School and graduated from Santa Cruz High School. She married Guillermo M. Espinoza and together raised eight children whom she was most proud of, always nurturing in them a relationship with God, family unity, education, and a strong work ethic. Later, she continued her education studying computer programming. Celerina retired after 25 years of dedicated service as a Program Data Entry Supervisor with the P.E.R.A. in Santa Fe. In addition, she also found joy spending time tending to her rose garden. Celerina was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and a relative and a friend to many.
Public visitation will begin on Saturday, August 8, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. A second rosary will be recited on Sunday, August 9, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Chimayo. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, August 10, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. also at Holy Family Catholic Church in Chimayo. Burial to follow at 3:00 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers, Ignacio Sanchez, Camille Espinoza, Vanessa Espinoza, Erica Espinoza, Ralph Espinoza, Jr., and Mateo DeVargas. Honorary pallbearers named; Nicolette Espinoza, Sharleen Espinoza, Victoria Espinoza, Christina Sanchez, Alexandria Sanchez, and Leah DeVargas. The family of Celerina Espinoza has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Espanola Valley.
