Cathy M. Martinez

Cathy M. Martinez, 67, peacefully closed her eyes in this world and opened them to eternal life surrounded by her loved ones on Sunday, March 03, 2024. Cathy was born to Samuel and Dolores Martinez on January 19, 1957 in Espanola, NM. Cathy loved the Lord with all her heart, something that was inherited from her mother at a young age.  She was a true woman of faith in which she demonstrated throughout her life. As a young child she loved spending time with her “daddy” while he worked in the Jardin or just taking a cruise into town for a treat. Cathy met her husband Albert in 1973. Together they were blessed with three children, Melinda, Gilbert and Sabrina. After living a short time in California and Utah they settled in El Guache, NM. She was a devoted mother and had a special relationship with each one of her children individually. Same be true for each one of her grandchildren. Cathy was an amazing cook. She would often times prepare one of her “special” dishes specifically for one of her children or grandchildren. This was her way of showing them how special they were to her. Some of her favorite pastimes were going to Bingo or talking on the phone with her close friends. 

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Luis and Carlota Martinez; maternal grandparents, Remijio and Saturnina Chacon; parents, Samuel and Dolores Martinez; brother, Delfine E. Martinez; sister Evelyn Webber and husband Gary Webber; nephews, Delfine “Delfinsito” Martinez, Ricardo “Cardo” Martinez and Albert Martinez; niece, Kelly Ann Martinez; in-law’s, Maclovio and Floripa Mondragon; brother and sister in-law’s, Alex and Doreen Mondragon, Larry and Myra Mondragon, Gloria Mondragon, Rudy and Margie Mondragon, Eloy and Senaida Mondragon, Gilbert and Rosie Mondragon; son-in-law’s, Danny E. Atencio and Joey Rivas.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Albert Mondragon; children, Melinda Atencio and husband Juan Quezada, Gilbert “her Corazon Santo” and wife DeAndra Mondragon, and Sabrina Mondragon; raised as her daughter, Michelle Romero and husband Jeremy; grandchildren, Samantha (Bob) and Andres “Andy” Atencio, Jalinna Martinez, Samuel (Samantha), Destiny (Dylan), Sofia and Eve “EJ” Mondragon, Catherine (Gabby), Cheyenne, Eric and Bethany Rivas; great-grandchild, Niclouse Mondragon; brother, Martin “Marty” Martinez; sister, Doris Padilla (Carlos); very special aunt, Lucy Pacheco; step-children, Orlando Mondragon (Isela) and family, Debbie Sandoval (Nick) and family, Arnold Mondragon (Paula) and family, Steven Mondragon (Jennifer) and family, Herman Mondragon and family; nieces and nephews, Chris, Camile (Michael), Robert, Crystal (Juan); sister-in-law’s, Pilar Padilla, Umelia Martinez, Florence Martinez and Virginia Pacheco; special friends, Marylinna Martinez, Joseph and Lala Salazar, and numerous other close relatives and friends.
