Catherine "Cathy" Martinez

CATHERINE MARTINEZ, 90, a resident of Hernandez, NM, went on to be with Our Lord on Saturday, January 11, 2025. She was a proud member of the Carmelitas of the Holy Family Parish of Chimayo and The Sagrada Familia of San Jose Parish in Hernandez, NM. Catherine enjoyed spending time with her family, whether it was cruising on Sundays with her son Rodger and his wife Frances or just spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved planting, sewing, gardening, praying the Rosary, or spending time in her kitchen serving her family, where we could eat, drink, and talk the night away. She enjoyed challenging you to eat the hottest chile we could find. 

She is preceded in death by her parents Mauricio and Andreita Martinez, in-laws Celestino and Lucia Martinez, husband of 60 years Rudolfo (Rudy) Martinez, daughter Andrenette Lue Martinez, brothers and sisters Marianita Jaramillo, Esquipula Martinez, Ninfa Martinez, Lugarda Montoya, Mauricio Martinez Jr., Nestor Martinez, Richard Martinez, and Ernesto Martinez, brothersand sisters-in-law Alberto Martinez, Juanita Martinez, Ester Gurule, Victoria Bauer, Ana Ruth Sanchez, and Lucy Mae Romero, and other nieces and nephews. 

She is survived by her son Rodger Martinez Sr. and his wife Frances of Hernandez, grandchildren Rodger Martinez Jr. and his wife Jessica of Chimayo, Jesse Martinez of Santa Fe, great-grandchildren Jeray, Nathaniel, Nolyn, and Heavenly Martinez of Chimayo, goddaughter Rosemary Martinez, sisters-in-law Elisa, Delia, Lillian, and Verna Martinez, and many nieces and nephews. 

A Public Viewing will begin on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at 5:30 pm, with a Rosary to follow at 6:00 pm at DeVargas Funeral Home, in Espanola, NM.  Funeral Mass will be at 12:00 pm Thursday, January 23, 2025, at The San Jose Parish in Hernandez, NM. 

Serving as Pallbearers will be Jeray, Nathaniel, Nolyn, Ernesto, Amadeo Martinez, and Gabriel Miera. Honorary pallbearers are Rodger Jr., Jesse, Heavenly, Jessica Martinez, and all nieces and nephews.
