Carolina E. (Cora) Herrera Romero was born on November 11, 1924 in La Puebla, NM. She passed away suddenly on Sunday, October 16, 2011 at her daughter Heralda Serrano’s home in Chimayo, NM. She married her husband Carmen on October 29, 1942 in Santa Fe, NM. Carolina was a homemaker all her life who loved to cook for every holiday for her family. She enjoyed having her children around her, especially her grandchildren whom she helped raise. She loved the outdoors, and watering her pretty flowers. She was preceded in death by her husband Carmen A. Romero; grandson whom she raised, Jimmy J. Romero; parents, Albino and Josefita Herrera; sisters: Isabel Archuleta and husband Felipe, Eloisa Montoya and husband Vicente, Tina Rodriguez, Delfinia Martinez and husband Rosario; brothers: Claudio Herrera, Antonio Herrera and wife Ascencion and Manuel Herrera; son-in-law, Ben Martinez; brothers-in-law: Espirion (Speedy) and Antonio Domingo Romero; grandson, Jeffry Martinez. Carolina is survived by her daughters: Helen Martinez of Fairview and Heralda Serrano of Chimayo; sons: Medardo Romero and wife Bonnie of Creston, Washington and Henry Romero and wife Teresa of La Puebla; great-grandchildren who she raised: Sonny Jr. and Jaselle Romero of Chimayo; goddaughter, Della Medina; brother-in-law, Felipe Romero and wife Solema; sisters-in-law: Maria Edna Duran all of Chimayo and Catalina Herrera of Santa Fe; grandchildren: Benjie Martinez (Beverly), Eugene Martinez, Shirley Abeyta Martinez, Daisy Martinez (Randy), Sonny Romero Sr., Caroline Romero, Anthony Romero (Christine), Del Rey Romero of Washington, Delmar Romero and wife Tessa of Idaho, and Miguel Romero and wife Tamara of Idaho; 18 great-grandchildren: Adriana, Andru, Fabian, Chantel, Racquel, Randy, Miranda, Aaron, Toni-Rae, Martina, Marcelino, Rayann, Jimito, Jerome, Noel, Kevin, Emilia and Helamen; great great-grandchildren: Aleah, Maximus, Ryan, Kianna, Gabriel, Danielle, Josiah; many nephews, nieces, and other loving relatives & friends. Public visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 18, 2011 at 6:30 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel at DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a wake to follow at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Canada with burial to follow at Nuestra Señora del Carmel Cemetery.
