Carlotta Jaramillo

d. July 15, 2015

In loving memory of Carlotta (Charlotte) M. Jaramillo – June 26, 1920 to July 15, 2015 a resident of La Madera, NM and originally from Vallecitos, NM.

On July 15, 2015, Carlotta M. Jaramillo passed on peacefully at the age of 95 to be with our Heavenly Father. Carlotta was preceded in death by her parents, Jose Ambrosio, Sr.  and Emilia Martinez; son, Joseph Melvyn Jaramillo; granddaughter, Verna Jean Dorothy Jaramillo; great-granddaughter, baby Dominica Jaramillo; great-niece, Joyce Santistevan; Brothers, Jose Eugenio Martinez, Guillermo Martinez and wife Josefita; Juan Manuel Martinez and wife Mary; Jose Melaquias Martinez; Jose Ambrose, Jr. and wife Bernie; Sisters: Crisantita Martinez; Antonia Varoz and husband Aniceto; Frances Jaramillo and husband Jose Pablo; and Manuelita Gallegos and husband Crestino.

Carlotta was an excellent grandmother to her grandsons; Dean, Melvyn and Marvyn. Carlotta grew up with a large family of her own. She was the last living member of her family members. She was the 3rd youngest of ten children. She spent much of her childhood helping her parents and family members at El Valle and Vallecitos. Carlotta eventually went on to attend the Spanish American Normal School at El Rito and followed her career path in the early in 1940s by also attending a Teacher Training School in El Rito, pursuing a teaching degree to become a teacher. She later attended NM Highlands University and obtained her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education.   Carlotta loved her profession as an educator and valued education. She retired after 35 years of service combined from the Rio Arriba County School System and the Mesa Vista School District. She taught school in the following communities: Cañon de Vallecitos, Mesa de Poleo, Llano de Los Quemaderos de Truchas, Canjilon, Cañones, Las Tablas, Petaca, Vallecitos, La Madera, El Rito and Ojo Caliente. During the summers, Carlotta enjoyed going to summer school at New Mexico Highland University, working in her garden, canning, baking, working on art and crafts, reading, working on materials or charts to prepare for the beginning of the school year; she was an avid reader, she enjoyed sharing her baked goods, crops, traveling, picnics and going fishing. She loved flowers, babies and her favorite color was pink. Carlotta believed in the Blessed Holy Trinity and frequently prayed the Rosary. Carlotta was very independent and strong willed and this strength was often demonstrated in her decision making. Even though she was in tremendous pain in her elderly age, she always remained strong and never wanted attention focused on her. She wanted everyone to continue on with their lives and was more concerned with how her family members were doing and if they were happy.

Carlotta is survived by her son, Vernon Jaramillo and wife Priscilla of Ojo Caliente; a special niece that Carlotta and her ex-husband, Martin Jaramillo, Jr. raised, Mary Frances Gallegos Santistevan and husband Carlos and at Carlotta’s request they both oversaw and cared for Carlotta’s needs in Albuquerque for almost 14 years.  Carlotta is also survived by her grandchildren, Dean Jaramillo and wife Doreen of Santa Fe, Melvyn Jaramillo and wife Debbie of Los Luceros and their children, Julius, James, Christopher and his companion Valeria, Alejandra and Cassandra; Marvyn Jaramillo and wife Gina of La Madera and their children, Jarryk, Justyce and Calvin; Joey Trujillo and wife Pam of El Rancho and their children, Estevan, Kira and Leah; Fred Trujillo and wife Lenore of Guachupangue and their children, Adrian and Loryn; Jynella Jaramillo and companion Ernest Armijo of Ojo Caliente and their children, Bryanna and Kaitlyn; and Roxanne (Roxy) Jaramillo of Ojo Caliente; great-great grandchildren,  Aalyia and Sofia and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
