Carlos (Charlie) Martinez, 85, a resident of Alcalde, formerly of Albuquerque, passed away on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 due to natural causes. Carlos was preceded in death by his parents, Federico and Aurora Martinez; wife, Sally Martinez; sons, Johnny Sr. Cecilio Sr. and Adam Sr. Martinez; grandsons, Juanito Jr. (Yvonne), Angelo and Joel Gonzales. Carlos retired from the United States Postal Service after 34 years. He was a member of the New Mexico National Guard. He served as a Eucharistic Minister at the Holy Rosary in Albuquerque. He was a Peligrino and a member of the Santisma Trinidad. Carlos loved to travel, he loved going fishing, hunting and he belonged to the Good Times Sam and enjoyed spending time with his family. Carlos is survived by his sons, Dennis (Mary Jane) Martinez of San Pedro, Waldo (Lisa) Martinez of Espanola, daughters, Melinda (Eloy) Gonzales of Arroyo Seco, Carla Leivas of Ojo Caliente, Julia (Albert) Ortiz of Espanola and Mary (Frank) Cordova of Alcalde; step-children, Lorrain, Louie, Donna Jean Garcia; 31 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren. Public visitation will begin on Monday, May 16, 2016, at 6:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m. A rosary will be recited on Tuesday, May 17, 2016, at 9:00 a.m. with the Mass of Christian burial to follow at 10:00 a.m. at La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Cañada. Graveside services will take place on Wednesday, May 18, 2016, at 9:00 a.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Serving the family as pallbearers will be his grandsons, Adrian Martinez, Joey Gonzales, Cecilio Martinez, Jr., Mario Martinez, Faveion Martinez, Eric Ortiz, Warren Maestas, and Adam Martinez, Jr. Honorary pallbearers, will be his sons-in-law, Eloy Gonzales, Albert Ortiz Jr., and Frank Cordova. The family of Carlos (Charlie) Martinez has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Espanola Valley.
