It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Carlos Maestas, 43, father, son, brother, uncle, grandson, nephew, and friend who was called home with our heavenly Father on Saturday, December 28, 2024. Carlos spent his final moments in the care of St. Vincent hospital, surrounded by his loving family, who held him close as he embarked on his final journey.
Born on October 6, 1981, to Charlie and Noreen Maestas he was raised with his two sisters in a loving and happy household. As the only son and the youngest sibling, he was the little brother who always danced to the beat of his own drum. Anyone who knew Carlos knew that he lived life on his own terms. Stubborn yet kind, introverted yet the life of the party, Carlos had a personality that left an unforgettable mark on everyone he met. Those fortunate enough to know Carlos, knew that he had a great sense of humor. He had nicknames for everyone and you could always count on him for a good laugh.
Although Carlos was not always open about expressing his love and emotions, everyone knew that Carlos’ greatest love and biggest accomplishment was his daughter, Camille. When she was younger, he very much enjoyed taking her everywhere, and she served as his sidekick enjoying the simple things in life such as fishing, joyriding, basketball games, and going to the movies. He was endlessly proud of the strong and capable young woman she has become.
Good, bad, or indifferent Carlos was loyal to those he loved. He was always around to lend a helping hand and often checked on the parents of his friends’ that had passed. He was considered a son to many of them and always did what he could to keep their memories alive.
Carlos found solace in the outdoors, especially in fishing and spending time in the mountains. Fishing brought him a sense of peace, and he took pride in providing a meal for his family when he could. His love for adventure extended to occasional trips to the casino, where he enjoyed playing craps. One of his favorite pastimes was helping his dad search for classic cars. Just the night before his passing, Carlos and his dad spent time together talking, looking at classic cars, and sharing meaningful conversation—a cherished memory that will forever be held in his father’s heart.
Carlos will be remembered for his little dances in the kitchen, his outspoken remarks, his love for fishing and the great outdoors, his daily Spanish jam sessions in the shower, and the boundless love he had for his family and friends. His unique spirit and unforgettable presence have left a permanent mark on our lives, and his absence will forever leave an emptiness in our hearts.
Carlos was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Phillip and Donella Herrera, his paternal grandparents Antonio and Olibama Maestas, his Aunt Melanie Herrera, Uncle Paul Maestas, cousin Jimmy Romero, and best friends Allen and Adam Martinez.
Carlos is survived by his parents Charlie and Noreen Maestas, daughter Camille, sisters Tracy Archuleta (Leonard) and Shannon Baca (David), nephews Dylan, Devon, and Diego and numerous aunt, uncles, cousins, friends.
