Boyd Allen Sherwood, age 80, went to meet his Lord and Savior while being surrounded by his family on Tuesday, April 8, 2014. Boyd was proceeded in death by his parents, brother, Gerald, and sister in-law, Gayleen. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary Lou; son, Daniel of Long Beach, CA; daughter, Kim of Los Alamos, NM; son and daughter-in-law, Allen and Sherri of Los Alamos; grandchildren, Danielle and Michelle Frybarger of Los Alamos, brother and sister-in-law, Curtis and Patti of Tuscon, AZ, and many other family members and friends.\r\nBoyd was a flat land Kansas boy, who found his way to New Mexico in 1959. The love of his life, Mary Lou, soon joined him; they married, and made their home and raised their family in Los Alamos. Boyd worked at Los Alamos National Laboratory as a mechanical/electrical engineer and retired from LANL with over 40 years of dedicated service. He appreciated the challenges his career afforded him, and always strived to have pride in a job well done.\r\nFilled with zest for life and adventure, Boyd spent his free time with family and friends hunting, fishing, camping, scuba diving, biking, motorcycle riding, and snow skiing. His presence was well known on Pajarito Mountain, as a club member and volunteer ski patroller. Throughout his years as a ski patroller at Pajarito Mountain, Boyd received two Purple Merit Stars, two Yellow Merit Stars, two Certificates of Appreciation, a National Appointment, and a Distinguished Service Award. In March of 2014, in recognition of his 40 years as a volunteer ski patroller, Boyd received a Service Recognition Award for Dedicated and Humanitarian Service. \r\nBoyd was a man of deep faith and a charter member of the White Rock Baptist Church. Boyd strongly believed in being of service to his passions - faith, family, friends, and community.\r\nWhile Boyd was on this earth he lived “his Dash” between October 11, 1933 and April 8, 2014 to its fullest potential with love, passion, commitment, and a smile. All who had the pleasure and opportunity to know and love him will deeply miss him. \r\nServices will be held on Saturday, April 19, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the White Rock Baptist Church in White Rock; reception to follow. Please plan to join the family to celebrate Boyd’s incredible life.\r\nIn lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make donations to the American Cancer Society or to a charity of your choice.\r\nThe family has entrusted the care of their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
