Boonie Miera

Boonie Miera, 81, of Velarde (La Canova), passed away unexpectedly on July 25, 2022. She was born on September 4, 1940 in Velarde to Antonio and Eliza Rivera.  Boonie was employed by Help NM as a Foster Grandma for about 18 years.  During this time, she was assigned to Algodones Elementary, Velarde Headstart, Alcalde Elementary and most recently to San Juan Elementary.  She really enjoyed being Grandma Boonie to all the kids.

Boonie was preceded in death by her son, Leonard Rivera; grandson, Manuel Rivera; parents, Antonio and Eliza Rivera; brothers, Herby, Max, and Pablo Rivera; sister, Grace Rivera; Margie Montoya who was like a daughter to her; special brother-in-law, Meliton Medina; sister-in-law Lucille Rivera; brothers-in-law, Levi Salazar and Joe Segovia; and special cousin, Adolfo Gasca Jr.

She is survived by her husband, Orlando Miera Sr. (Eloy); daughters, Soledad (Arthur) Martinez, Eliza Miera, Orlanda Gonzales; granddaughter whom she raised like a daughter, Samantha (Raul); sons, Orlando (Bridgette) Miera, Jr. and Augustine Miera; grandchildren, Patrick (Savanah), Gabriel, Amanda (Steven), Nicole (Ben), Arthur (Janelle), RoseAnn (Eric), Juan (Ashley), Jesse, Francis, Shanah, and Sheyenne; great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Priston, Hailey, Jayden, Alyssa, Sophia, Savanah, Genesis, Nathaniel, Layla, and Fativa; sisters, Sylvia Salazar and Guadalupe Medina; and two god-daughters, Angela (Benny) Martinez and Shanah Kroesen plus many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Pallbearer will be Samantha Miera, Juan Rivera, Arthur Martinerz Jr., Patrick and Gabriel Miera, Francis Kroesen, and Raul Arreola. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be all her grandchildren and grand-children.

A public visitation will take place on Wednesday August 3, 2022 at 6:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory, with a rosary to follow.  Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday August 5, 2022 at 11:30 at Our Lady of Guadalupe in Velarde with a burial to follow at OLOG Cemetery in Velarde.

The family of Boonie Miera has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Espanola Valley.
