Betty Lou Norris, 78, a lifelong resident of the Española Valley passed away on Thursday, June 13, 2013 after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Betty was born on December 5, 1934. She was preceded in death by her husband, William; son, Patrick; parents, Leopoldo and Aggie Serna; and aunt, Pilar Serna. Betty was a loving mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and aunt. She worked at Country Farm Supply for more than 20 years where she met countless friends. Betty was extremely active in the Española Valley Little League, the Española Fiesta Council, American Cancer Society, Boy Scouts, and the Catholic Church and spent much of her time fundraising for numerous charitable organizations. She was an excellent dancer and had a tremendous love of life. Betty was a selfless woman who put the needs of others before her own. She will be truly missed, but her spirit will remain with us always. Betty is survived by her children: Melissa Robinson (John), Kevin (Leigh Anna) Norris and Ken Norris; grandchildren: Kayla and Kristen (Chris Miera) Norris, Aaron Robinson, Savanna, Kevin, and Camryn Norris; great-grandson, Kristopher Miera; brother, Leopoldo Serna; sisters: Jane Serna and Annadelle Sanchez (Max); and special nephews and niece, Stephen Sanchez and Erika, Jeret and Jaxson Fleetwood; numerous other loving relatives & friends. Public visitation will begin on Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at 6:00p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home and Crematory, a rosary will follow at 6:30p.m. Memorial Mass will be on Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at 10:00a.m. at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Espanola with burial to follow at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. Serving the family as honorary pallbearers will be: Max Sanchez, Stephen Sanchez, John Robinson, Chris Miera, and Jeret and Jaxson Fleetwood.
