“Betty” Jean Salazar, 49, a resident of Velarde passed on to a better life and to be with her departed family and friends on Monday, January 24, 2011. She was preceded in death by her beloved Dad, Ernesto “Neto;” Salazar and brother Michael; paternal grandparents, Manuel and Victoriana Salazar; maternal grandparents, Marcelino and Marina Martinez; paternal aunts, Olivama Sanchez, and paternal uncle, Eloy Salazar; maternal uncle, Noberto Martinez; close cousins: Tim, Joseph and Mark Hice, Danny Sanchez and Louie Martinez. “Betty” Jean is survived by her daughter, Andrea Salazar, son Ernesto Salazar, three grandchildren: Atalia, Amberly and Brian Archuleta Jr. Goddaughter: Cathryn DeWulf, mother, Mela Salazar and husband Jose Cruz Monzon, all of Velarde; sister, Martha Lujan and husband Michael of Abiquiu; brother, Erineo Salazar and wife JoAnn of Velarde. She is also survived by maternal aunt, Berlinda Hice; paternal aunts: Estella Quintana and Aurelia Salazar of Velarde, Mary Martinez of Utah; paternal uncle, Juan Salazar and wife Christine, all of Utah. She is also survived by 8 nieces, nephews, Reggie Salazar, Valerie DeWulf, Anna Salazar, Michelle Trujillo, Ashley Salazar, Diego Marialouisa and Miguel Lujan. She is also survived by numerous friends and family who will miss her dearly. Public visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at 5:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Velarde with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, January 27, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Velarde with internment to follow at Our Lady of Guadalupe Cemetery in Velarde with the following serving as pallbearers: Reggie Salazar, Steven DeWulf, Harry Trujillo, Miguel Lujan,Modesto Quintana and Franklin Salazar; honorary pallbearers: Ernesto Salazar, Atalia, Amberly, and Brian Archuleta Jr., Brian Archuleta Sr., Cathryn DeWulf, Samantha, and Michael DeWulf, Issiah Trujillo, Brandon Salazar, Jordan Trujillo III, Kryshauna, Jenika Salazar and DeShawn Lujan.
