Bertha M. Lucero, 89, a resident of Española, passed away of a short illness on Monday, June 16, 2014. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tony F. Lucero; parents, Flavio and Petronila Montoya; brothers, Armando and Benny Montoya, sisters, Eliza Rivera, Ernestina Salazar, Lupita Trujillo, and Bernie Trujillo. Bertha was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She was a very devoted catholic and active in the Altar Society for numerous years. She was also a member of San Martin de Porres Soup Kitchen. Bertha was responsible for the Advent wreath for over 30 years. One of her hobbies was bowling, she truly loved cooking, and baking for her family always giving a helping hand and generous with her time and talents. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. Bertha is survived by her sons, Armando “Hack” and Frank Lucero both of El Guache; Paul Lucero grandson of El Guache whom she raised like a son; grand-daughter, Shelley Olguin and husband Ronnie of San Pedro, great-granddaughter, Danekah Olguin of San Pedro; sisters, Flora Montoya of San Pedro, and Ruby Sanders of Albuquerque; close niece, Berlina Herrera and husband Gabriel of Nambe, Christina Trujillo of Santa Fe; dear friend Cristina Baca of Santo Domingo Pueblo, and close relative, Jane Serna of Hernandez, Bertha’s cats “weda”, “pinto”, and “pedro” were her babies, and numerous other relatives and friends. Public visitation will begin on Monday, June 23, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Española, with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at 11:00a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with a burial to follow at 1:30 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Serving the family as pallbearers will be Flavio Montoya, Mickey Montoya, David Salazar, Ronnie Olguin, Albert Martinez, and Chris Roybal. Honorary pallbearers named are Altar Society Members and San Martin de Porres soup kitchen. The family of Bertha M.
