Bernie Floyd Velasquez, 82, of Arroyo Seco, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home on July 27, 2022. He was born on October 6, 1939, in Coyote, NM to Salomon and Carmelita Velasquez. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Arnold and Dulcinea, his sons, Robert and Ventura and son-in-law Mike Herrera.
Bernie loved to challenge himself. He began his trade at a young age in plastering where he built several successful businesses in both contracting and aggregate work. Bernie taught his children valuable skills and virtues such as hard-work, dedication, and determination which has allowed his children to grow in success and family.
Bernie also enjoyed the outdoors whether it be hunting, fishing, or camping, his family credits their love for nature to their dad. He enjoyed being surrounded by his children and grandchildren. Bernie was always the central rock of the family who spread a blanket of love, strength, and advice that still encompasses the lives of those he left behind.
Bernie is survived by his wife of 53 years, Esther; sons, Bernie Jr. (Lori), Jimmy, David (Carmen) and Salomon (Sunny). Daughters, Bertha Denetclaw, Pauline Herrera-Fresquez (Charles), Pamela Vigil (Darrell), Kathy Griego (Juan Duran). Brothers, Paul (Vivian) and Tomas. Brothers-in-law, Jake (Patty), Gene (Paula), Toby (Grace), and Jerry. Grandchildren Lena, Kenneth, Ivan (Amanda), Lenore, Kevin, Cynthia, Melissa, Daniel, Celina, Michael, Jacob, Nicole (Brandon), Kimberly, Samantha, Jessica, Darrell N. (Tisha), Marcos, David, Clare, James, Joseph, and Gianna; and 9 great-grandchildren.

Public visitation will be held at De Vargas Funeral home on Thursday, August 4th at 6:00pm followed by 7:00pm rosary. Catholic funeral mass will be held at Holy Family Parish in Chimayo on Friday, August 5th at 10:00am followed by burial at the Nuestra Señora de Delores cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers are his grandsons, Ivan, Kevin, Michael, Jacob, Daniel, Darrell N., Marcos, and David Jose Maria.
