Bernie Romero

d. December 13, 2020

BERNIE T. ROMERO, 84, a resident of Cordova, was called home to be with our Heavenly Father on Sunday, December 13, 2020; a calling to reunite with her late husband, Arsenio Romero and son Candido “Candyman” Romero. She was preceded in death by her parents, Candido and Sarita Trujillo; brothers, Willie and Tony Trujillo; in laws, Victor and Beroniz Romero; son-in-law, Kenny Romero; grandson, Manuel Sandoval; and various in laws.

Bernie and her beloved husband Arsenio celebrated a marriage of 62 years in the small rural community of Cordova. The two shared an everlasting love that very few couples are fortunate enough to experience. The result of this love brought five beautiful children into the world and over the years, a larger family, consisting of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, close relatives, and life-long friends.

Bernie was a beautiful, kind, gentle soul, whose personality radiated like a beam of sunshine into the hearts of everyone she met. She was by nature a mother, whose love for family was at the forefront of her existence; a devotion towards family was the most important aspect of her life. The doors to Bernie’s home were always open for friends and family, she was there to greet you with a big smile, a warm heart, and open arms. Her close friends and immediate family knew her simply as Grandma B; a fitting name for a simple, kindhearted grandmother to everyone she encountered. Grandma B’s house was a home for anyone who entered, it was her priority to make you feel welcomed and made sure your stomach was always full. Bernie had a love for cooking, she was always found in the kitchen preparing food for her family listening to KDCE radio, making her popular tortillas, red chili, banana nut bread and other delicious food items that will be missed by so many. After dinner and the entire family was fed, Bernie would often tell one of her children “Quires ir al casino?” One thing she might have enjoyed more than cooking was playing bingo with her family and friends. Everyone who knew Bernie would agree that she was an angel in disguise, with a heart of gold, whose arms provided comfort for so many friends and family. If there is anything our beloved Bernie left behind it was an example of how to love unconditionally.

Bernie Romero is survived by her son, Victor Romero (Sonia); daughters, Bernice Romero, Eileen Rael, Cindy (Alvaro) Vigil; grandchildren, Faith Sandoval, Katrina (Jesse) Martinez, Fabian (Kimberly) Romero, Brandon (Alexandra) Rael, Devon Romero (Carrie), Randy Romero, Kristi Romero (Travis), Zachary and Destiny Vigil, and Taty Menendez; great-grandchildren, Kaylee Chavez, Shawn, Jordan and Kinsley Martinez, Keyanna, Manny, Renae, Kayla, Alyana, Mia, Sienna, Jazarae and Gigi Sandoval, Denajah Romero, Dominic and Alyssa Rael, Connor, Logan, Candy, Jameson and Layla Romero, Leah Martinez, Frankie Quintana, Mariah and Samantha Brown; brothers, Johnny Trujillo Sr. (Estella), Joey Trujillo (Toni), Eliseo Trujillo (Yolanda); brother-in-law, Jose “Joe” Romero (Betty); sisters-in-law, Priscilla Romero, Lilian Trujillo, and Maria Casey; loving goddaughter, Mildred Aguilar (Louie) and family; best friends, Theresa Valdez, Benina Martinez, Evila Romero and Lola Sandoval; and numerous nieces and nephews whom she considered more like grandchildren. Memorial service will be held on Friday, January 8, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Victory Faith Church in Espanola, with a burial to follow at the Presbyterian Cemetery in Cordova.
